ABOUT THE COMPANY

St Andrew’s School, Turi is highly respected in Kenya and regarded as one of the leading international schools in East Africa. Numbering 550 pupils, it comprises two semi-autonomous schools: a Preparatory School of circa 220 pupils between the ages of 3 and 13 and a Senior School of circa 330 pupils between the ages of 13 and 18. It is fully coeducational and the great majority are boarders. The School has an overtly Christian foundation and sees its overall aim as encouraging young men and women to ‘live and lead with integrity’.

JOB SUMMARY

St Andrew's School, Turi is looking for an experienced Head of Modern Foreign Languages to lead our highly effective and competent team of French and Kiswahili teachers.  The successful candidate will report to the Deputy Head Academic and will be expected to deliver high quality and exciting provision in the academic classroom for able and talented students. If you an ambitious teacher, with proven classroom experience, along with passion for leading and developing the teaching and learning of Kiswahili and French, then this is the position for you. The Head of Modern Foreign Languages is a member of the Heads of Department Team, and leads our highly effective and competent team of French & Kiswahili teachers.  It is also wonderful opportunity to not only contribute to our fantastic school, but also to tempt you to consider living in a beautiful location in the Rift Valley of Kenya.  You will also be able to join our successful full boarding School, particularly as we launch our new Turi Leadership Pathway, a programme that  develops the heart, minds, bodies and souls of our students so they become transformational leaders.  QualificationsA degree result of 2:1 or its equivalentA teaching degree i.e. PGCEan additional qualification of educational managementKnowledgeA clear understanding of and affinity for the School's ethosKnowledge of the requirement and operation of ISI or equivalent inspectorateRecent experience and knowledge of leading an MFL DepartmentAn understanding of effective leadership and management in relation to co-curricular provision.ExperienceLeadership experience, including energy, resilience and a track record of enthusing and motivating othersCurrent Head of DepartmentExperience of teaching KS2 or KS4 French and/or KiswahiliRelevant experience in a Prep School contextRelevant experience in working in a boarding school.Experience of successfully managing budgets and delivering against objectives.Willingness to contribute to the sporting and co-curricular programme of the school.
