Nairobi, Kenya St. Philip Neri Primary School Full time

Reporting to the Operations Manager the driver/mechanic will carry out the following functions:


1. As a driver perform the duties of a driver by transporting school pupils, staff, and authorized goods to and from designated routes adhering to the law and school policies.

2. Perform preventative routine checks such as engine tune-ups, oil and filter changes, tire pressure, tire rotations and changes, wheel balancing, cooling and oil systems, electrical system, brakes, etc for the school vehicles and take corrective measures.

3. Fleet management: Planning and organizing checkups and servicing of the vehicles as per St Philip School policies and procedures and providing a report on the service, checkups, and repairs done in addition to timely reporting of any mechanical breakdown to the supervisor.

4. Advice on procurement of spare parts upon identifying spare parts required, informing supervisor to raise requisitions and order for spares, and undertaking minor repair of vehicles as and when necessary.

5. Logs official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, and expenditures related to transportation/vehicles, vehicle servicing, and repairs.

6. Ensuring day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle(s); checks oil, water, battery, and tires, and performs minor repairs and arranges for any other repairs necessary to keep the vehicle safe and technically sound at all times in timely manner; maintain the vehicle(s) in a clean condition.

7. Ensuring proper care in the use and maintenance of motor vehicle equipment and supplies.

8. Detecting and reporting malfunctioning of vehicle systems, addressing those that can be handled inhouse and reporting others to be addressed in time from designated workshops as per the schools’ policies and procedures.

9. Ensuring the security and safety of the vehicle on and off the road.

10. Ensuring security of the authorized passengers and or goods in his/her vehicle.

11. Perform vehicle safety pre-trip and post- trip inspections as required by the law to ensure proper vehicle working conditions and maintaining the safety equipment.

12. Any other duty assigned by the supervisor.


Knowledge Skills and Abilities

1. Must have a Certificate in Automotive Engineering/Motor Vehicle Mechanics grade 1 or related course /sufficient apprentice from a recognized institution.

2. At least three (3) years’ experience driving and maintaining vehicles by working in a similar position in a reputable organization.

3. Must have A valid PSV and a driving license Class B, C, E free from any penalties and valid for all types of vehicles which the candidate is required to drive.

4. Have a certificate of good conduct from the Kenya Police Department.
