JOB DESCRIPTION

***Only current Plan International Kenya staff and/or staff who were formerly employed by the organization within the last 12 months will be considered***

The Organisation

Plan International is an independent development and humanitarian organisation that advances children’s rights and equality for girls.

We believe in the power and potential of every child. But this is often suppressed by poverty, violence, exclusion and discrimination. And it’s girls who are most affected. Working together with children, young people, our supporters and partners, we strive for a just world, tackling the root causes of the challenges facing girls and all vulnerable children. We support children’s rights from birth until they reach adulthood. And we enable children to prepare for – and respond to – crises and adversity. We drive changes in practice and policy at local, national and global levels using our reach, experience and knowledge. We have been building powerful partnerships for children for over 85 years, and are now active in more than 80 countries.

Plan International Kenya Strategy Statement

Plan International Kenya’s (PIK) strategic goal in the next five years is to end teenage pregnancies and end all forms of sexual and gender-based violence against adolescent girls and young women. We aim to help create an enabling environment where girls and young women are safe, valued, equally cared for, and have equal opportunities. PIK will contribute to the global strategy by aiming to reach directly approximately 2.75 million (children, including girls and young women over the period of the strategy 2022-2026 and to reach additional beneficiaries through its interventions.

About the Role

The Project Officer role is based at the Program Unit level and will be responsible for providing oversight to implementing partners (IPs) for effective delivery of projects and child sponsorship. The incumbent has a primary responsibility to ensure the partner organizations clearly understand and execute the partnership contracts and plans, while driving program excellence, risk mitigation and project management standards.

The incumbent will work towards ensuring a seamless integration and quality of both sponsorship delivery and project implementation against approved partnership arrangements and in line with the Country Strategy. The incumbent will actively engage in project cycle management including design and planning processes with all relevant stakeholders. They will provide oversight to implementation of projects while ensuring consistent reporting and adherence to policies and procedures.

While working with partners, the incumbent will ensure safe programming, effective mobilization of sponsored families, children, girls, youth and other community members to participate in programs and sponsorship communication activities as per the mutually developed detailed implementation plan and sponsorship monthly & annual schedules.

The role will manage partnerships (county government; government line ministries, national NGOs, corporate agencies among others) and sustain a working relationship with sponsored families, communities and local partners. The incumbent will ensure capacity strengthening of partners.
