JOB SUMMARY

THE ORGANIZATION James Finlay Kenya Limited (to be renamed Browns Plantations Kenya Limited) recently acquired by Browns Investments PLC. Browns is a highly successful diversified conglomerate and part of the LOLC Holdings PLC group companies which is one of the largest and most profitable listed corporation in Sri Lanka. It is headquartered in Sri Lanka and has a proud heritage in operating plantation businesses, owning Maturata Plantations, Hapugastenne Plantations PLC, and Udapussellawa Plantations PLC. Browns is one of the largest tea producing companies in Sri Lanka consisting of 49 individual estates that stretch across an area of over 30,000 hectares and employs over 10,000 individuals. We invite applications for the post of Welfare and Safeguarding Assistants which have arisen in our Kericho Operations. These are junior management positions on a 6-month Term Contract basis with the possibility of an extension.THE JOBReporting to the Welfare & Safeguarding Officer, the job holder will provide efficient and effective safeguarding and welfare services including grievance handling mechanisms to all employees, contractor employees, and their dependents within the department as stipulated in their job description. The Job seeks to enhance Browns Plantations Kenya Limited Protection and Safeguarding Systems and structures from any form of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence and Harassment (SGBVH) and workplace violence and harassment. The role entails identification and monitoring of human rights risks within the Department, Implementation of programs that enhance prevention or mitigation of human rights risks such as capacity building and awareness programs, responding, offering support and referrals on all safeguarding, and human rights concerns within BPKL with the aim of promoting a safe workplace for all in line with our Zero Tolerance approach to all forms of human rights violation. JOB SPECIFICATIONSDiploma or equivalent in Social Work, Gender Studies, Community Development, or any other relevant field of Social Science from a recognized Institution.Three years of relevant experienceMust have an in-depth knowledge of Human Rights Due Diligence (HRDD), business and human rights (BHR), Child Protection, Women Empowerment, and Gender-Based Violence, Workplace Violence and harassment including sexual harassment policies and Legislation Must have the capacity to plan and execute training.Must be computer literate. Excellent communication skills (oral and written) Good organizing and planning skills with good interpersonal skills.Ability to work under pressure with minimum supervision.Must have a high level of integrity, with sensitivity in handling and processing data while maintaining confidentiality. RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for implementation of the welfare and safeguarding programs within the workplace, schools and residential areas. With the support of the Welfare & Safeguarding Officer carry out participatory human rights risk assessments, and continuously monitor the salient risks within the department.Empower employees through training and awareness creation of polices, processes and procedures that safeguard them from any form of SGBVH.Provide guidance and direction to employees and other third parties on raising grievance on any welfare and safeguarding concerns.Ensure that the Gender & Welfare committees are constituted and are empowered to carry out their mandate in supporting protection and safeguarding of employees’ and third parties.Refer any cases of human rights violation to the line manager.Respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns in line with the UN Guiding Principles 31 on Business and Human Rights,Maintain an up-to-date database on case management as stipulated in the policy documents and procedures whilst adhering to the Data Protection Act 2019. In consultation with the Welfare & Safeguarding Manager refer cases to the government justice system and provide psychosocial support and monitoring of clients through the referral pathway to closure.In collaboration with unit management undertake regular village and school inspections, develop action plans to address the risks, and monitor the implementation of action plans. Implement mentorship and safeguarding programs within all the schools including Early Childhood Development Centers (ECDs) and Creches.
