We do this by partnering with private, informal daycare entrepreneuers and delivering training and investment designed to upgrade standards, foster business sustainability, and deliver improved care to children. We build on and enhance the wealth of local market demand and supply, and strike a balance between quality improvement and financial sustainability.
JOB SUMMARY
We are looking for a dynamic and creative Communications and Engagement Manager (CEM) to lead our communication efforts and drive engagement across our network of daycare providers and parents. This role combines digital marketing expertise with traditional outreach skills to effectively grow and engage our community.In this role, you will design and implement strategies to acquire new members, retain current ones, and enhance their involvement with our network. Your responsibilities will include creating engaging content, managing social media channels, and running grassroots campaigns tailored to our diverse audience.You will also analyze the effectiveness of your communication strategies, adjust approaches based on data, and collaborate with team members to ensure a consistent and impactful message. Your success will be measured by your ability to drive network growth, increase member satisfaction, and encourage active participation.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Drive and be primarily responsible for stakeholder communications, leading the production of communication content, strategies and materials for the daycare partner network. Understanding that effective communication is not limited to conventional materials like brochures, text website, e-newsletters, presentations etc, but rests as much if not more on and the text, video, WhatsApp, call, meeting topics and overall virtual and in-person communications in which the company is talked about and the community is forged, the CEM will ensure that all traditional and cutting edge, relevant communication materials and strategies are deployed with the objective of maximizing member engagement.Develop and maintain communications plan and calendar.Plan for, run and analyze periodic efforts to test user receptiveness to marketing and communication materials and content for members to ensure an iterative loop is maintained, that we fail fast and adapt quickly to the feedback received.Maintain our social media platforms, content and ensure regular updates on salient, organizational positive activities are shared across these and other relevant channels to support increased awareness and engagementMonitor and evaluate the effectiveness of project communications activities and adjust strategies as needed.Create compelling content, including articles, blog posts, and social media posts, to highlight project impact and achievements.Lead on the co-ordination and management of marketing and brand messaging throughout the organization. This includes overseeing design and copywriting, plus editorial support and coaching of staff when talking about the company, to ensure key messages and a consistent brand image is conveyed throughout.Producing the communications calendar, including multiple weekly text communications to our networkTesting effectiveness of the customer engagement strategy on a monthly basis, through a range of quantitative (retention, product sales, meeting attendance, messaging) metrics as well as qualitative (surveys) measurements.Reinforcing our brand identity across the network – both in daycares and content produced by network members. Ensure that our combined efforts result in our stakeholder audiences clearly understanding who we are, what we do, and that they see the value of partnering with the company.Ensure all staff have scripts and use them to speak to our network membersEnsure all staff use our logo and materials properly, have standardized email signatures, business cards etc.Supervise the Call Centre / Communications manager on all comms aspects of their work.Secondary ResponsibilitiesSupport the CEO in company’s marketing and media activity, including identifying strategic PR and media opportunities, responding to media enquiries, writing and distributing media releases and op-eds, at all times representing the company in line with our vision and mission.Liaise with and relevant stakeholders to ensure a strong brand profile.Review, update and communicate brand guidelines to enable our organisation to represent our brand effectivelyProvide marketing, communication and tone / writer input to the content designed for the e-learning platform / the e-learning platform itself.Producing written / printed materials for our key stakeholders – parents, daycare managers, partners – describing our work, their work, the opportunity of partnering with the company, products and other value-added materials, training handouts, meeting materials – all range of documents that support and explain our work.Where needed, be the point person / liaison with local media to ensure accurate and positive representation of the companyRepresent the company in external facing forums, whether workshops, business meetings or pitches, alone or with colleagues, with the purpose of advancing our brand profile and partner / investor opportunities.Mentor / train members of the team and partnership network to improve communications capacity and integrityContribute creative ideas for improving the company’s storytelling and communications strategyAssist the CEO where possible in fundraising / pitch documents / marketing events for external donors / proposalsQualificationsDegree in English, communications, journalism or equivalent, from a recognized university3 years’ experience in communications, media relations, public relations or related field. At least 2 years must have been acquired in a grassroots capacity.Demonstrated experience creating and implementing successful communications plans, materials and reports geared towards lower income communities.Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.Proficiency in graphic design software, such as Adobe Creative Suite.Experience with website content management systems (CMS) and analytics tools.Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously, able to work quickly and effectivelyTakes initiative and creativity to leverage opportunities, tackle challenges, identify solutions. Able to work independently and as part of a larger team.Working knowledge and understanding of the value of storytelling in print, digital and social media channelsPronounced managerial and interpersonal skills, skilled at building and maintaining relationships, with an ability to command attention and respect, and an ability to be respectful in return.Strategic, innovative thinker, able to identify market opportunities and linkages from scratch.Skilled verbal and presentation communication skills in both Kiswahili and English.Able to assist with donor fundraising proposals as well as corporate facing pitches.A team player who can work well with colleagues from different backgrounds.
