ABOUT THE COMPANY

GIZ, the German Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH, provides services in the field of international technical cooperation worldwide. In Kenya, it has been active since 1964, and up to now implements programs in a wide variety of areas, including economic development, green energy and water, governance, food security, and peace and security. The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) is GIZ's main commissioning party. However, GIZ as well works closely with the private sector, fostering successful interaction between development policy and foreign trade.

JOB SUMMARY

GIZ –German International Cooperation Agency- supports the German Government in achieving its goals in international cooperation for sustainable development. GIZ is seeking a technical Junior Advisor to support the project "Employment promotion in the informal sector by leveraging diaspora money transfers - platform. This is a regional project funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) that gives (financial and non-financial) incentives to invest remittances in friends' and families' micro and small businesses and thereby improve the employment and income situation in Africa. Through the digital platform ), grant applications are submitted jointly by members of the African Diaspora in Germany and business start-ups and micro-entrepreneurs in Africa. Entrepreneurs are supported by improved access to finance through the topping-up of diasporas' transfers of funds and capacity-building of entrepreneurial skills. The project's approach is to maximise the impact of diaspora remittances to Africa. Members of the diaspora in Germany/Europe will identify and register individuals and businesses known to them in which they trust, wish to invest and see potential. Both partners (diaspora donor and entrepreneur) apply with a joint business project. These business projects will go through a verification process and then receive technical support from local coaching organisations and a further financial contribution by GIZ that matches the joint contribution from the diaspora donor and the entrepreneur.The business projects are micro/small sized companies (start-ups as well as existing micro/small businesses) with an idea to increase revenue and in turn, employment. The project is supported and managed through the digital platform Via the platform the application process is managed, the project is designed, goals and budgets are set, and coaching activities are managed. The projects are monitored and evaluated through data collected directly from the beneficiaries as well as trusted coaching partners, via the digital platform. The online platform focuses on investments ranging from EUR 250 to EUR 2,500. The leverage ratio of the investments is 1:1:2, i.e. one Euro investment of both the African entrepreneur and the diaspora representative is subsidized with two Euros from the BMZ. The additional public subsidy consequently also ranges between EUR 250 and EUR 2,500. Accordingly, diaspora members and African entrepreneurs can each invest between EUR 125 and EUR The transfer of funds takes place via formal financial service providers and not via the platform.

RESPONSIBILITIES

B. Summary of responsibilities The Junior Technical Advisor will be responsible for: Providing technical support for the WIDU platform. Conducting specific moderation steps on the WIDU platform. Knowledge management, coordinating information and optimizing workflows. WIDU Platform Technical Support Provide first-line support to users experiencing technical difficulties with the WIDUplatform at the Country level Diagnose and troubleshoot software issues, documenting problems and solutions for future reference Escalate complex technical issues to headquarter software team when necessary Coordinate and implement software updates for the WIDU team, coaches and entrepreneurs in collaboration with the headquarter software team Work closely with the WIDU platform development team to understand and contribute tonew features and updates that address the specific needs of the Kenyan users Backstopping users and providing guidance through Zammad and other available onlinesolutions as per the GIZ rules, regulations and standards Moderation tasks Responsible for some moderation steps (M1) and ensuring the project scoring matrix isadhered to. Through online platforms sensitise the diaspora and entrepreneurs on the projectscoring rationale to increase the number of quality projects Document decisions on M1 for learning processes within the WIDU team and GIZ Sustainable Economic Development Cluster Knowledge Management Creating, updating, and organizing technical and procedural documentation pertainingplatform workflows. Documents training events, workshops, forums, meetings, and other project activities Contributes knowledge, ideas, feedback, and lessons learned to the programme team forcontinuous learning, improvement, and innovation. Managing the repository of resources, such as presentations, templates, terms ofreferences, guides and final reports Other duties/additional tasks Performs other duties and tasks as required by the project Builds his/her knowledge and skills through asking questions, getting involved inactivities and internal training opportunities C. Required qualifications, competences and experience Qualifications: Bachelors or Master's in IT, Business, Finance, Development Economics, International Development Studies, or comparable relevant courses. Professional experience Experience in operating and working with digital platforms Knowledge of small businesses and entrepreneurship Experience in leveraging ICT in business development particularly for microenterprises. Excellent reporting and presentation skills. Ability to work as part of a project team. Demonstrated ability to communicate in both written and spoken English. Experience in monitoring, evaluation and knowledge management is an added advantage. Other knowledge, additional competences Very good working knowledge of ICT technologies (related software, phone, email,internet), Excel and other computer applications (e.g. MS Office); Strong communication skills, good interpersonal skills and a willingness to cooperate effectively with colleagues.
