Job purpose
To support the day-to-day execution of Evidence Action's multi-country carbon program, and to support the building of strategic partnerships, within and without the climate change sector, to expand the impact of Safe Water Evidence Action's implementation.
Location: Nairobi, Kenya
This role reports to: Manager, Carbon Financing (ESA) (East and Southern African region)
Direct reports: None
Travel requirements include: Visiting countries within the ESA region for approximately 50% of the time or depending on the need.
Duties and responsibilities
- Support the carbon manager in Country Designated National Authorities (DNA) Needs: Assist the Carbon team in addressing the specific requirements of DNAs related to Article 6 transitions.
- Meeting Coordination: Coordinate with Country Leads to arrange meetings with DNAs, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
- Implementation Framework Support: Aid in the development and execution of the implementation framework for transitioning carbon projects to Article 6, aligning with country DNA requirements.
- Policy Review and Analysis: Review and analyze country-specific climate change and carbon policies, including Acts of Parliament, to ensure compliance and strategic alignment.
- Plan Preparation: Prepare detailed plans and presentations for submission to government bodies, facilitating approval and support for carbon initiatives.
- Staff Training: Conduct training sessions for staff on carbon policy interventions, enhancing their understanding and capabilities in this area.
- Partnership Development: Develop and maintain partnerships within the carbon sector, fostering collaboration and expanding the program's impact.
- Documentation and Reporting: Document lessons learned throughout the transition process, contributing to continuous improvement and knowledge sharing within the team.
Requirements- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field with strong project management skills, and having a degree in Environmental studies or related fields will be an added advantage.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Internet Explorer.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Adept project manager who can engage and keep a large number of stakeholders on target.
- Experience in developing projects and programs for the carbon markets.
- Desirable experience working in the water sector.
- Experience in managing a cross-cultural team in East Africa.
- Proven ability to build robust partnerships with governments, Non-profit and NGOs.
- Experience influencing relevant stakeholders and working in a matrixed organizational environment.
- A critical, analytical, and process-oriented thinker who forms and adjusts opinions based on evidence.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently and work under pressure.
- Highly developed organizational skills.
- Strong understanding of carbon policies and climate change legislation.
- Excellent coordination and organizational skills.
- Ability to analyze and interpret policy documents and legislative acts.
