Background
- Kenya has a population of 53,980,566 and 1,653,053 live births, with most of the population residing in rural areas.
Kenya implemented a new constitution in 2010, devolving political power and governance to two levels of government, National and 47 semi-independent counties with defined functions.
Capacity Building for COVID-19 Vaccination Integration
- Supporting Ministry of Health leadership to effectively integrate COVID-19 vaccination with routine immunization and other primary health care interventions, emphasizing resource allocation and mapping for individuals at high risk of COVID-19. This includes continuous education and collaboration with healthcare workers, leveraging World Immunization Week to enhance integration efforts.
COVID-19 vaccination in Kenya is transitioning from campaign mode to a sustainable part of the National Routine Immunization Programme and Primary Health Care to focus on high-risk groups, thanks to the support from GAVI.
UNICEF Kenya received funds for Social Behavior Communication to aid COVID-19 Vaccine rollout and seeks a specialized consultant to facilitate integration and collaboration with key stakeholders like Education and Children Services.
Activities and Tasks
- Review documents, data, and map SBC activities and gaps to develop guidance roadmap across the country.
- Orient Health Management Team and partners on SBC, supporting the development of county SBC plans.
- Promote social accountability mechanisms for improved immunization reporting.
- Customize communication materials for counties and support dissemination of IEC packages.
- Coordinate media content for community engagement in promoting routine immunization services.
- Assist NVIP in disseminating communication guidelines and key documents.
- Participate in coordination meetings and report on key SBC issues.
- Document good practices and lessons learned.
- Provide monthly and final consultancy reports.
- Advanced degree in relevant field.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in SBC and related areas.
- Expertise in planning, coordination, and monitoring of SBC activities.
- Knowledge of local health systems and community engagement.
- Prior experience with government or UN agencies.
Skills Required
- Promote collaboration among stakeholders.
- Advocacy and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication skills in English and Kiswahili.
- Message and materials development expertise.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Willingness to travel within Kenya.
