Job Description


The Kenya Primary Literacy Programme (KPLP) is a project spanning five years aimed at assisting the Kenyan Ministry of Education in implementing large-scale interventions and testing and expanding innovative solutions to tackle the language and literacy necessities of primary school students, all while cultivating more inclusive, accountable, and resilient educational organizations and systems.

KPLP has three primary objectives:

  • Enhancing education services and academic achievements, especially among vulnerable groups;
  • Reinforcing educational institutions and systems to be more responsible, self-sustainable, and sturdy;
  • Empowering local youth associations to reinforce and maintain community and familial backing for student learning and well-being.

Position Description


The IT Assistant holds a vital role within the Kenya Primary Literacy Programme (KPLP) team, providing essential IT support services at both the central and regional offices. This role encompasses aiding in the configuration, operation, and upkeep of IT infrastructure, delivering assistance for office IT systems, and contributing to troubleshooting efforts related to IT and network issues. The IT Assistant will collaborate closely with Home Office support and Home Office Help Desk, reporting to the IT Officer and stationed in Nairobi.

  • Field incoming help requests from project personnel via telephone and email courteously.
  • Offer in-person and virtual support and resolve issues for all staff at the Nairobi and regional offices.
  • Record all pertinent user details, including name, department, contact information, and issue nature.
  • Form strong working relationships and efficiently gather issue particulars from project personnel requiring IT aid.
  • Prioritize and schedule problem resolutions.
  • Apply diagnostic tools to aid in issue resolution.
  • Identify and familiarize with software and hardware used and supported by the project.
  • Execute hands-on fixes at the desktop level, such as software installations and upgrades, hardware installations, file backups, and systems configuration as per Home Office guidelines.
  • Provide network administration support in regional offices.

Qualifications


  • The IT Assistant applicant must possess the following qualifications at a minimum:
    • Skills and Experience:
    • A minimum of 2-3 years of IT experience.

    Experience with both PC and Mac systems.

  • Proficiency with various software, particularly MS Word and MS Excel.
  • Must be meticulous and well-organized.
  • Capable of working in a multicultural environment, negotiating tactfully, and performing effectively under pressure.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, cultural awareness, ability to function under pressure, and the aptitude to thrive in a diverse and interdisciplinary work setting.
  • Willingness to travel to project-covered regions if required.
