Position Description

The IT Officer is responsible for providing technical support and network assistance at the headquarters and regional offices. This role involves overseeing the setup, operation, and upkeep of office IT systems, troubleshooting issues, and managing IT solutions. The IT Officer collaborates closely with Home Office support and Help Desk, reporting to the Finance and Administration Manager. The position is full-time and based in Nairobi, Kenya.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Offer technical setup and support for all IT issues, including LAN, servers, Internet connections, workstations, printers, software installations, upgrades, and configurations;
  • Coordinate and supervise external IT agencies and consultants for tasks like cabling and Internet installations;
  • Track Helpdesk requests, issues, and services for project staff;
  • Deploy and maintain office network per Home Office standards;
  • Document network operations, procedures, and processes;
  • Act as the Nairobi office Network Administrator;
  • Provide network administration support to regional offices;
  • Identify and resolve network issues proactively;
  • Supervise equipment maintenance and services by external contractors;
  • Offer in-person and virtual troubleshooting support to all employees in Nairobi and regional offices;
  • Implement network security measures and prevent misuse of IT resources;
  • Contribute to drafting IT policies;
  • Advise on IT procurement decisions;
  • Manage IT inventory and cooperate with Logistics Officer on equipment monitoring;
  • Set up and maintain hardware firewall;
  • Maintain network security by applying patches and antivirus updates;
  • Develop and document disaster recovery plan and offsite data backup;
  • Provide guidance and assistance to project regional offices as needed.


Qualifications

The ideal IT Officer candidate must meet the following requirements:

Education:

Bachelor's degree in IT, Information Systems, or related field.

Skills and Experience:
  • Minimum 5 years of IT systems management experience;
  • Preference for candidates with USAID project experience;
  • Advanced MS Excel skills including macro programming and ODBC connection;
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively in teams;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, cultural awareness, ability to work under pressure, negotiate tactfully, and thrive in a diverse work environment;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English;
  • Willingness to travel to program locations as required.
Project Description

The USAID Kenya Primary Literacy Program (USAID KPLP) is a five-year initiative supporting the Kenyan Ministry of Education in enhancing language and literacy skills among primary grade learners and building resilient education systems. The program aims to improve education services and student outcomes, strengthen education institutions, and engage local youth organizations in supporting student learning and wellbeing.
