Finance Officer

Job Summary

The Finance Officer is responsible for managing, monitoring and reporting all financial activities of Verde Nurseries. The role ensures accurate financial record keeping, compliance with accounting standards, effective budgeting and the provision of financial insights to support decision–making and sustainable business growth.

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Management and Accounting

2. Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for all nurseries.

3. Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and management reports.
4. Manage accounts payable, receivable and general ledger reconciliations.
5. Process invoices, reimbursements, receipts, etc in accordance with financial policies.

6. Oversee payroll processing and statutory deductions

7. Budgeting and Forecasting

8. Assist management in developing annual budgets for all departments.

9. Monitor budget implementation and prepare reports.
10. Forecast cashflow requirements to support nursery operations and shared services.

11. Advise on cost control and efficiency improvement opportunities.

12. Financial Reporting and Analysis

13. Generate periodic performance reports comparing actual results with budgets and targets.

14. Provide analytical insights into sales performance, plant production costs and operational profitability.

15. Support management decision making on pricing strategies, investment opportunities and cost structures.

16. Compliance and Internal Controls

17. Ensure adherence to financial policies, accounting standards and statutory regulations.

18. Liaise with auditors, tax authorities and financial institutions as required.
19. Implement and monitor internal control systems to safeguard company assets and ensure data integrity.

20. Maintain accurate records for inventory, plant stock and assets in coordination with the core services team.

21. Cashflow and Treasury Management

22. Oversee daily cash management, bank reconciliations and cash book maintenance.

23. Manage collections, deposits, deposits and supplier payments.

24. Support fundraising, credit applications and financial negotiations with banks or investors.

25. Support to Other Departments

26. Work closely with procurement to manage expenses and optimize income (where applicable).

27. Track project expenditures and ensure landscape design projects remain within approved budgets.
28. Contribute financial data to feasibility studies and business development initiatives.

Key Competencies

1. Sound understanding of cost accounting and inventory management.
2. Knowledge of horticultural, nursery production cycles (advantageous)
3. Ability to interpret financial data for operational planning and decision making.
4. Team player with good interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
5. Commitment to transparency, accountability and continuous improvement.

Qualifications & Experience

1. Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Commerce or a related field.
2. CPA II or above (CPA III preferred).
3. At least
   3 years of progressive experience
   in accounting or finance, preferably within a fast-moving goods industry or multi-site organisation.
