We are currently developing a groundbreaking agricultural project in Galana, Kenya — one of the largest irrigated farms in Sub-Saharan Africa — aimed at transforming the region into a productive agricultural hub and strengthening Kenya's food security. Since 2023, we have progressed from pilot stages to full operations, combining innovation, infrastructure, and strong partnerships to deliver long-term impact.

Role Overview

The Irrigation Manager will lead the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of irrigation systems across Selu's large-scale farming operations. The role focuses on achieving efficient water management, improving irrigation performance, and ensuring sustainability through data-driven planning and continuous system enhancement.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Irrigation Planning

  • Design and oversee irrigation systems tailored to diverse farm projects.
  • Conduct feasibility assessments and manage system installation in compliance with project timelines and standards.
  • Supervise contractors and coordinate with suppliers and service providers to ensure quality and safety compliance.

2. Maintenance & Performance Monitoring

  • Implement preventive and corrective maintenance schedules.
  • Evaluate system efficiency, optimize energy and water usage, and manage resource inventories.
  • Develop and monitor irrigation schedules aligned with crop requirements.

3. Compliance & Reporting

  • Ensure adherence to safety, environmental, and statutory regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records on water use, system performance, and maintenance.
  • Address risks, audits, and performance gaps through timely corrective actions.

4. Training & Capacity Building

  • Train and mentor irrigation teams on system operation, troubleshooting, and sustainable water management.
  • Develop structured training modules and promote best practices in safety and efficiency.

5. Budget Management

  • Prepare and manage the annual irrigation budget, including maintenance, manpower, and system upgrades.
  • Track expenses and recommend cost-saving measures and investment strategies.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of managerial experience in large-scale agricultural irrigation projects, preferably in Kenya.
  • Proven expertise in irrigation design, installation, and maintenance.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental regulations, safety standards, and modern irrigation technologies.
  • Excellent problem-solving, leadership, and communication skills.
