Internal Auditor II

Yehu seeks to attract and retain a strategic thinker with a keen eye for detail, strong execution skills, with

passion for promoting integrity, accountability, and sustainable business growth in the role of Internal

Auditor. The Internal Auditor will be responsible for providing independent assurance on the effectiveness

of internal controls, risk management, and governance processes across the organization. Take leadership

in audit planning and execution within assigned operational units (Branches), ensuring alignment with

institutional policies, regulatory requirements, best practice and annual business plan objectives. The role

also involves driving continuous process improvement initiatives, providing actionable insights to

management, and fostering a culture of compliance, professionalism, and operational excellence. The

Internal Auditor will be reporting to the Head of Internal Audit. This job role could be assigned supervision

of routine work of the Internal Auditor I or junior auditors.

1. Key Specific Responsibilities

1.1 Audit Leadership and Execution


• Lead comprehensive routine and ad-hoc audits at branch and functional levels, including physical

verifications of assets, loan portfolios, and client interactions.


• Develop and implement audit plans aligned with organizational risks, regulatory requirements,

and strategic objectives.


• Mentor and supervise Assistant Internal Auditors, providing guidance on fieldwork, audit

practice, data analysis, interpretation, root cause analysis, reporting and problem solving.

1.2 Advanced Accounting and Risk Assessment


• Apply advanced audit methodologies to evaluate financial accuracy, compliance with

IFRS/IPSAS/GAAP, and internal controls.


• Apply predictive risk modelling to pinpoint high-risk processes and focus audit resources

efficiently, anticipate compliance breaches and prevent control failures, enhancing continuous

monitoring and early detection of anomalies.


• Conduct in-depth fraud risk assessments using frameworks like COSO and ACFE, including root

cause analysis and design of cost-effective control enhancements.


• Perform analytical procedures with tools like Excel, Power BI, and specialized software to detect

anomalies, variances, and portfolio risks.

1.3 Portfolio and Compliance Management


• Analyze loan portfolio trends for delinquency, concentration risks, and adherence to credit

underwriting policies, benchmarking against internal risk appetite and funder covenants.


• Evaluate social performance and client protection alignment with institutional goals, monitoring

AML/CFT, data privacy, and fair treatment practices.


• Track regulatory compliance, identify violations, and drive corrective actions through systematic

follow-ups and risk registers.

1.4 Reporting and Stakeholder Engagement


• Prepare high-quality audit reports, workpapers, and executive summaries that meet professional

standards (e.g., ISA, IIA) and regulatory needs.


• Communicate findings, risks, and recommendations effectively to diverse stakeholders, including

management, the board, and regulators.


• Maintain risk registers, monitor corrective action implementation, and contribute to policy

development for strengthened governance.

1.5 Continuous Improvement and Training


• Facilitate training sessions on audit techniques, compliance frameworks, and social impact

measurement for the audit team and cross-functional staff.


• Identify opportunities to refine audit processes, checklists, and tools based on emerging risks and

best practices.

2. Key Qualifications

2.1
Strong knowledge of risk-based auditing, internal controls, financial analysis, and regulatory

compliance frameworks (CBK Microfinance regulations, AML/CFT guidelines, data

protection, etc.).

2.2
Proven ability to lead and execute audit assignments not limited to physical verifications, loan

portfolios, and client interactions and produce high-quality reports that meet professional

standards (ISA, IIA) and provide actionable recommendations to management.

Proven ability to apply advanced audit methodologies to evaluate financial accuracy,

compliance with IFRS/IPSAS/GAAP, and internal controls.

Proficiency in management of information systems, core banking systems, data analytics

tools, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Power BI).

Advanced data analysis and interpretation, root cause analysis, and professional skepticism for

predictive risk management.

4. Job Specifications: Academic & Professional Qualifications:

4.1
Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Commerce, Economics, or

a related field from a recognized institution.

4.2
Certified Public Accountant (CPA-K) or Association of Chartered Certified Accountants

(ACCA) qualification is mandatory.

4.3
Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), or Certified

Fraud Examiner (CFE) qualification will be an added advantage.

4.4
A master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Finance, Strategic Management, or Auditing) will be

an added advantage.

4.5
Minimum of 5 years of progressive audit experience, 2 of which should be at a senior or supervisory

level, preferably in microfinance, banking, or financial services.

4.6
Member of the Institute of Internal Auditors and ICPAK in good standing.
