We focus on ensuring CHWs are treated as essential health workers who should be digitized, equipped, supervised, and compensated—so they can make the greatest impact—and harness community-level data to transform health systems. In 2023 we supported over 12,000 CHWs, impacting more than 6 million people across Kenya, Uganda, and Burkina Faso.

The Opportunity:
The Global Grants and Compliance Officer focuses on facilitating end-to-end grants management and reporting processes, working in collaboration with Business Development, program operations and other teams on grants compliance. The role ensures the production of high-quality, timely donor reports and provides comprehensive grants management support to program and support teams. The Officer will be responsible for advice on donor compliance and LG policy & regulations to ensure grants are implemented on track, on time, and on budget while adhering to funding and reporting requirements from grant inception to close.

Roles and Responsibilities:
Grant Management and Compliance (50%)
  • Ensure grants or contracts are well administered and that program and support teams are fully informed of relevant donor compliance regulations and LG procedures to support on-track, on-time, and on-budget implementation.
  • Coordinate regular grant monitoring, using appropriate grant management tools and through facilitation and support of regular and timely Grant Review, Opening, and Closing Meetings to ensure effective performance oversight.
  • Oversee comprehensive information management and filing system, ensuring donor contractual documents, reports, and key correspondences are and key correspondence are consistently organized, up to date, and accessible.
  • Maintain a broad and deep understanding of relevant donor policies, regulations, and procedures.
  • Advise and liaise with the Director of Compliance and Grants, Director of Financial Planning and Analysis, Country Heads of Finance and Administration, BD team, and Project Managers in liaison or representation to donors, and tracking key donor correspondence.
  • Ensure effective channels of internal and external communications relating to grants are established and respected, confirming senior management and technical leads understand donor communication protocols and provide copies of correspondence for files.
  • Review all proposed sub-contract and sub-grant agreements to ensure alignment and compliance with donor terms and Living Goods' contractual obligations.
  • Collaborate with financial analysis and planning and program teams to ensure that key processes and systems are followed to manage grant risk assessments, donor financial compliance, and reporting management processes.
Reporting (30%)
  • Manage all external reporting to ensure timely delivery of high-quality reports which meet donor and LG requirements, coordinating closely with program and finance managers and coordinators.
  • Ensure quality information management related to reporting by overseeing the regular maintenance of grant files, reporting calendars, and updating of internal LG documentation and Grant Management Tools.
  • In concert with the finance team, assist program technical leads and operations staff with understanding the reporting and other compliance requirements on their grants.
Sub-award management and Administration (20%)
  • Oversee sub-award due diligence and monitoring procedures to ensure compliance with donor regulations and Living Goods' internal policies
  • Develops, and review sub-award templates and tools, prepare assessments, monitoring plans, and implement corrective actions
  • Reviews sub-award modifications and provide expert advice to Program/Project staff on sub-awards-related matters.
  • Collaborate with Program/Project staff to monitor subrecipient/subcontract performance, deliverables, financial reporting, and compliance with contractual terms and donor requirements.
  • Advise program/project staff on preparation, administration, and closeout of grants and sub-awards.
  • Oversees maintenance of up-to-date program sub-award tracker to ensure timely reporting and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Coordination, planning, and execution of annual audits of sub-awardees.
  • Participate in the assessment onboarding, and capacity strengthening of new partners and sub-awardees.
Qualifications and Competencies:
Essential Qualifications, Experience & Attributes:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Finance, Accounting, or related field with at least 5 years relevant experience.
  • Professional Certifications /Qualification: CPA, CA, ACCA or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience in a complex International NGO with a budget of $20-50mil annual budget.
  • Broad experience with multiple funding sources, including government, bi-laterals and corporates and foundations.
  • Experience with the rules and regulations of multilateral donors.
  • Strong written and verbal communication in English.
  • Demonstrated understanding of grants management, with proven experience in managing large donor portfolios.
  • Familiarity in capacity building of staff, especially in program oversight and reporting (Financial and Programmatic).
  • Demonstrated proficiency in donor reporting, with strong writing, editing, and analysis skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication in English
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing requirements and needs.
  • Experience working in or with Africa.
