JOB DESCRIPTION

Position: Flexo Lead - Operator

Reports to: Production Manager

Job Summary
The Flexo lead – Operator shall be responsible for managing and executing flexographic printing processes with precision and consistency. This role involves technical expertise in preparing and running the Flexo press, ensuring color accuracy, registration, and quality standards are achieved as per customer approved artwork. The Flexo lead shall also ensure production optimisation, machine efficiency, waste reduction, troubleshooting on technical issues, and maintaining safety standards in the factory.

Safety

  • Assure the safety of the employees by provision of appropriate PPE for use during handling of chemicals and the safe use of equipment, including housekeeping and environmental compliance.

Key Responsibility And Accountabilities
Prepress & Machine Set up

  • Must be able to review artwork for correctness, color separations, and specifications.
  • Perform pre-run checks to ensure the machine is ready and safe to operate.
  • Prepare and set up printing plates, cylinders, Dies and other press components based on job requirements.
  • Read and interpret job orders specifications and ensure that all materials, inks, and substrates are ready and suitable for the job as per work order.
  • Adjust rollers, tension, and ink viscosity to ensure proper print quality.

Press Operation

  • Operate Flexo printing presses, adjusting settings for optimal performance.
  • Calibrate press to ensure precise color matching, registration, die cutting and print quality.
  • Monitor ongoing print runs, making real-time adjustments as necessary to maintain quality.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and cleaning of presses and ancillary equipment to ensure smooth operation.
  • Make real-time adjustments to machine settings to maintain quality output and flag any print defects.
  • Record and report any issues or deviations from standards.
  • Collaborate with quality assurance teams to implement corrective actions.

Troubleshooting & Maintenance

  • Diagnose and resolve technical problems related to press operation, ink flow, registration, or other printing issues.
  • Adjust press parameters to optimize productivity and minimize waste.
  • Perform routine cleaning and preventative maintenance on the press.
  • Work closely with maintenance teams for repairs and preventive maintenance.
  • Report major repairs or malfunctions to maintenance team for prompt resolution.

Process Optimization (CI)

  • Analyze production processes to identify opportunities for continuous improvements.
  • Implement best practices for ink usage, substrate handling, and waste reduction.
  • Stay updated on the latest Flexo printing technologies and incorporate innovations.

Reporting

  • Maintain detailed logs of production runs, machine settings per batch, tooling used, and issues encountered.
  • Prepare reports on production quality, downtime, and material consumption for management review.
  • Adhere to standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Diploma or degree in Printing Technology or any related field.
  • Proven experience in flexographic printing with and strong understanding of Flexo press mechanics, ink systems, substrates, and color management.
  • Knowledge of prepress workflows, including artwork separations review.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with health and safety regulations in a printing environment.
