Position: Data Engineer

Location: Nyeri (onsite)

Reports to: CTO

Key Responsibilities

Develop, optimize, and maintain ETL/ELT data pipelines to ensure reliable and timely delivery of data across systems.

Write efficient SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, and analysis from structured and semi-structured sources.

Create and maintain Python scripts to automate data ingestion, validation, and transformation processes.

Build and manage data models and transformations using DBT (Data Build Tool) to support analytics and reporting needs.

Monitor data workflows, troubleshoot pipeline issues, and ensure data quality and integrity across environments.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Strong SQL skills – capable of writing complex joins, window functions, CTEs, and performance-tuned queries.

Proficiency in Python for scripting, automation, and data manipulation (e.g., pandas, airflow, or related libraries).

Hands-on experience with DBT for data transformation, modeling, and documentation.

Experience working with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or SQL Server.

Understanding of ETL/ELT concepts, data warehousing, and modern data architecture.

Familiarity with version control tools (e.g., Git) and CI/CD workflows.

Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Excellent communication skills to translate technical solutions into business outcomes.

Preferred Skills

Build Tableau and an understanding of how data structures impact visualization performance.

Experience with cloud data platforms (AWS RedShift).

Familiarity with data governance, quality, and documentation best practices.
