Software Engineer-Back End

JOB PURPOSE – SUMMARYA Software Engineer- Back End is responsible for coding the server-side application logic while ensuring high performance of requests from the frontend, creating the application database and ensuring a secure flow of data from the database to the front-end. The Software Engineer- Back End will study industry trends and improve back-end processes, code, and work with other team members to design a better customer experience. We are expected to be committed to equal employment opportunities and fair treatment of all employees.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIESCollaborate with colleagues and cross-functional teams to understand requirements and design efficient backend systems to support existing and new features being added to our platform.Develop and maintain secure and scalable backend services and APIs to support the Trace platform.Develop responsive web-based user interfaces using modern front-end technologies, with a specific focus on expertise in PHP.Implement and maintain high-quality, reusable, and efficient code, with proficiency in PHP, Joomla, and Laravel.Implement and maintain data storage solutions, ensuring efficient data retrieval and storage for large datasets.Improve data processing pipelines and integrate with various data sources to support analytics and other applications.Integrate vendor and customer systems with the Trace platform.Participate in code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and contribute to the continuous improvement of development processes.Stay updated on emerging technologies and industry best practices, incorporating them into the development process when applicable.PROFESSIONAL, TECHNICAL SKILLS AND PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE REQUIREDBachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.5+ years of experience in software development and technical leadership.Demonstrated knowledge of software development methodologies and techniques.Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Able to work independently and as part of a team.Able to multi-task and prioritize tasks effectively.Strong organizational and project management skills.Understanding the fully synchronous behavior of PHP.Knowledge of object-oriented PHP programming.OGILVY AFRICA – COMPANY OVERVIEWOgilvy Africa is the largest network agency on the continent catering to 40 countries with a team of ~900 people across Central, East and West Africa.
