Position Summary
Under the direction of the Senior Program Director of Youth Development, the Dance Instructor leads classes that teach students the art of dance while fostering confidence, joy, and creativity. Instructors create a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment where all participants feel welcomed, encouraged, and inspired to achieve their goals.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to work with people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities.
- Commitment to the YMCA mission and values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Adaptability and creativity in teaching diverse groups of students.
Physical Demands
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. and maintain good physical condition.
- Ability to stand, move, and demonstrate exercises for extended periods.
Qualifications
- Extensive background and experience in dance.
- Current CPR, AED, and Basic First Aid certifications (or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire).
- Ability to maintain certifications and meet the physical/mental readiness required for instruction.
Essential Functions
- Prepare and deliver lesson plans that support skill development and creativity.
- Communicate clearly and effectively, including projecting voice in both quiet and loud environments.
- Support and attend recitals, rehearsals, and program events.
- Participate in staff meetings and trainings.
- Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to changing needs.
- Accurately record time worked.
- Provide excellent member service by exceeding expectations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Arts & Camping Services.
