Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated VoIP Engineer with a proven track record of implementing, managing, and troubleshooting complex PBX systems. The ideal candidate is a subject matter expert in Asterisk, capable of designing and maintaining high-availability voice solutions from the ground up. You will be responsible for the entire lifecycle of our VoIP infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and call quality for our users.
Key Responsibilities
- System Architecture & Implementation: Design, deploy, and configure scalable and resilient Asterisk-based PBX systems, including dial plans, call routing, IVRs, queues, and voicemail.
- Troubleshooting & Support: Act as the primary escalation point for all VoIP-related issues. Diagnose and resolve complex problems related to call quality (jitter, latency, packet loss), SIP signaling, media transcoding, and carrier interoperability.
- System Maintenance & Optimization: Proactively monitor system performance, availability, and security. Perform regular maintenance, updates, and performance tuning of Asterisk servers and related infrastructure.
- Networking: Collaborate with the network team to ensure proper QoS (Quality of Service) policies, VLAN segmentation, and firewall configurations are in place to support real-time voice traffic.
- Scripting & Automation: Develop scripts (e.g., using Bash, Python, or Perl) to automate routine tasks, deployments, and system monitoring.
- Documentation: Create and maintain detailed technical documentation for system configurations, troubleshooting procedures, and network diagrams.
Required Skills And Qualifications
- 6+ years of hands-on experience as a VoIP/Telecom Engineer.
Expert-level, demonstrable experience with Asterisk:
Deep understanding of the Asterisk architecture, modules, and core components.
- Proficiency in writing complex dial plans ).
- Strong experience with Asterisk protocols: SIP (chan_sip/pjsip), RTP, and IAX2.
Experience with Asterisk management interfaces (AMI, AGI).
Proven track record of implementing and troubleshooting various PBX systems in production environments.
- Strong proficiency with VoIP protocols: In-depth knowledge of SIP (including SDP, INVITE, REGISTER) and RTP. Ability to analyze packet captures (e.g., using sngrep or Wireshark) is essential.
- Linux Administration: Solid experience working in a Linux/Unix environment (e.g., CentOS, Debian, Ubuntu), including command-line proficiency and system administration.
- Networking Fundamentals: Strong understanding of TCP/IP, UDP, DNS, DHCP, NAT, and network security concepts (Firewalls, ACLs).
