Job Description
Key Responsibilities
Bearing Assembly & Roll Preparation
- Assemble and disassemble work rolls, backup rolls, chocks and bearing assemblies in accordance with approved procedures and production requirements.
- Install, align and prepare bearing assemblies and rolls for rolling mill operations.
- Operate approved equipment used for bearing mounting, dismounting and roll preparation activities.
- Perform shot blasting and preparation of rolls in accordance with established work instructions. Inspection, Maintenance & Equipment Care
- Inspect bearings, chocks, seals and associated components and identify wear, damage or abnormalities requiring attention.
- Clean, lubricate and replace worn or defective components in accordance with maintenance requirements.
- Conduct routine equipment checks and report abnormalities requiring technical intervention.
- Support maintenance activities aimed at improving equipment reliability and performance. Quality & Process Compliance
- Verify assembled components against approved specifications, tolerances and quality requirements.
- Use measuring instruments to confirm alignment, fitment and component condition.
- Maintain accurate inspection, maintenance and equipment history records.
- Identify and report non-conforming components and quality deviations. Safety, Health, Environment & Compliance
- Comply with HSEQ requirements, safe work procedures and LOTOTO requirements.
- Use prescribed PPE and approved lifting, handling and workshop practices.
- Report hazards, incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions promptly.
- Maintain housekeeping standards in line with 6S requirements. Reporting & Communication
- Maintain accurate maintenance, inspection and bearing history records.
- Communicate equipment condition, abnormal findings and maintenance requirements to the Mechanical Technician.
- Collaborate with Production, Maintenance and Roll Shop teams to support operational requirements. Continuous Improvement
- Participate in TPM, Kaizen and maintenance improvement initiatives.
- Contribute ideas aimed at improving equipment reliability, quality and operational efficiency.
- Support implementation of approved improvement actions. Requirements Minimum Requirements Qualifications
- Grade I Trade Test in Mechanical Fitting, Mechanical Engineering Certificate or an equivalent technical qualification. Added Advantage
- Hands-on experience in rolling mill operations.
- Training in bearing assembly, precision measurements or mechanical maintenance.
- Knowledge of 6S and Autonomous Maintenance.
- Experience working with hydraulic presses and bearing installation equipment. Experience
- Minimum five (5) years' relevant maintenance experience.
- Minimum two (2) years' experience in bearing assembly, roll preparation, mechanical fitting or related maintenance activities.
- Experience in a manufacturing, steel processing or heavy industrial environment. Key Competencies Technical Competencies

- Ability to use precision measuring instruments and interpret technical drawings.
- Inspection, lubrication and replacement of mechanical components.
