The Mater Hospital was opened in 1962 by the Sisters of Mercy, a Catholic Order of Nuns originating from Ireland, three years after registering themselves as the Registered Trustees of an entity under the Perpetual Succession Act (the succeeding legislation after independence).

Main Duties:

Provision of a consultative service for paediatric patients under other units or departments.
Ensuring supervision for junior medical officers and providing support for the senior medical staff in the care of the Unit/Department’s patients.
Reviewing and managing referred paediatric patients at A & E.
In liaison with the Consultants, conducting ward rounds and reviewing all paediatric in-patients at the wards, ICU, General Nursery and Special Care Unit.
Facilitating the timely admission and discharge of all patients in accordance with hospital policy.
Reviewing all investigation results in a timely manner, and ensuring all paediatric prescriptions are undertaken with utmost care.
Regular attendance both in-hours and out-of-hours according to manning charts or rosters.
Assisting management in drawing up and implementing policies and procedures for the Unit.
Ensuring that patients/families are given adequate information upon which to base treatment decisions and follow-up.
Participating in the relevant department/unit quality activities program(s) as requested by the Units/Departments.
Be responsive to patient and relatives’ complaints, liaising with appropriate senior staff and the patient advocate.
Participating in the management of patients in the Well Baby Clinic.
Participating in Cardiac Camps, when necessary.

Required Qualifications for the Position

Bachelor of Medicine & Surgery
MMed. in Paediatrics
Registered with KMPDC
