Restriction: 3 Months probation initial 1.5 years of Contract and 1 months Notice Period

Gross Salary Range: Competitive

Job Location: Nairobi, Kenya.

About: Self Help Africa (SHA) is an international NGO dedicated to the vision of an economically thriving and resilient rural Africa with extensive experience working to support smallholder farmers, farmer associations, and agribusinesses across the continent. The organization also advocates for smallholders at a policy level and collaborates with Trade Mark Africa to drive transformative trade and investment reforms in the East and Horn of Africa. In line with these efforts and the Economic Recovery and Reform Activity (ERRA) program funded by USAID, SHA is focused on enhancing economic resilience, especially for women and youth entrepreneurs in Kenya, through the WIT programme.

Job Purpose:

The Project Manager will play a pivotal role in overseeing the successful implementation of the WIT programme, ensuring adherence to contractual agreements and quality standards. This individual will leverage market systems expertise to lead diverse activities such as Access to Finance, SMEs capability building, and strategic partnerships. With a focus on sustainability and impact, the Project Manager will drive project outcomes, donor reporting, and team performance to support long-term growth and empowerment.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Management

  • Ensure overall project delivery for Self-Help Africa.
  • Lead project planning, implementation, quality assurance, reporting, and stakeholder coordination.
  • Develop and monitor project plans, budgets, and resource allocation.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders for cohesive project execution.
  • Oversee SMEs due diligence, capacity building, and market linkages.
  • Provide technical input and ensure gender and climate considerations are integrated.
  • Manage project communication plans and partnerships.

Operational and Financial Management

  • Review project budgets in collaboration with project accountant.
  • Ensure compliance with contract requirements and donor policies.
  • Manage project resources efficiently and oversee safety protocols.

Monitoring, Reporting and Results Communication

  • Facilitate monitoring and documentation of project activities and impact.
  • Conduct project monitoring visits and compile periodic reports.
  • Analyze program data, share best practices, and ensure compliance.

Representation:

  • Represent SHA at various levels and engage with stakeholders.
  • Lead policy engagements and maintain relationships with partners.
  • Ensure project documentation is up-to-date and shared effectively.

  • County and National Governments (Trade and Agriculture)
  • Other Stakeholders including Semi-State Agencies, research institutions, financial institutions, and donors

Key Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Agricultural Sciences, Agricultural Economics, Rural Development, Agribusiness Management, or related field required.
  • Masters degree in project management, Agribusiness, Enterprise Development or related field desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience in private sector development and USAID-funded projects.

Knowledge, and Experience Required:

  • Minimum 4 years in private sector development and program design.
  • Over 2 years managing USAID projects focusing on trade facilitation.
  • Strong understanding of SMEs financing and market systems development.
  • Experience in engaging with diverse stakeholders and government entities.
