ABOUT THE COMPANY
Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) is the leading body representing the private sector in Kenya. It unites various local and international business associations, federations, and chambers of commerce to collectively advocate for the interests of over 1 million businesses locally and 45 million globally through ICC-Kenya Chapter membership. KEPSA plays a vital role in championing private sector development and fostering socio-economic growth, particularly through initiatives promoting women and youth empowerment.

KEPSA functions as an umbrella organization for more than 80 associations and professional bodies. Within the EAC region, it serves as the primary contact for the East African Business Council, actively collaborating with similar bodies to address business challenges and boost trade and investments.

JOB SUMMARY
Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) plays a pivotal role in driving economic growth by enhancing the business environment and addressing crucial business issues. The organization aims to facilitate investments, tackle socio-economic challenges, and promote a conducive atmosphere for businesses, especially SMEs and startups, to thrive. By fostering collaboration between different stakeholders through structured dialogue platforms, KEPSA strives to create a cohesive voice for the private sector.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
KEPSA, in partnership with the Ministry of Information, Communications, and Digital Economy and supported by the Mastercard Foundation, is involved in the Ajira Digital Program. This initiative aims to empower over 1 million Kenyan youth to access digital work opportunities in a span of three years. The program bridges the skills gap by providing training, mentorship, and tools for young individuals to engage in digital work and contribute to Kenya's vision of becoming a globally competitive knowledge-based economy.

The Ajira Digital Program encompasses five key programs focusing on training, job creation, and establishing linkages within the digital job ecosystem.

OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE
The Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Intern will actively work towards promoting gender equality and social inclusion within the Ajira Digital Program to create a more equitable and inclusive digital work environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As the Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Intern, your main responsibilities will include:

  • Researching and compiling data on gender disparities in digital work
  • Collaborating with partners to address gender-specific needs
  • Promoting gender-responsive practices in the digital work ecosystem
  • Cultivating partnerships to support gender equality initiatives
  • Maintaining records of gender-inclusive digital workers
  • Proposing activities to enhance gender equality in the digital economy
  • Designing awareness campaigns on gender equality
  • Assisting in organizing workshops focused on social inclusion
  • Integrating gender equality principles into program activities
EXPECTED OUTPUT
The Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Intern will actively engage partners to broaden digital work opportunities for women, Persons with Disability, and refugees in the Ajira Digital Program.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
To excel in this role, candidates should have:

  • A university degree in Gender Studies, Social Sciences, or related fields
  • Knowledge of gender equality and social inclusion in digital work
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment
  • Proficiency in English and Kiswahili
ADDED ADVANTAGES
Candidates with experience in gender mainstreaming and social inclusion approaches, familiarity with gender analysis frameworks, and previous involvement in gender equality initiatives will be given special consideration.
