ABOUT THE COMPANY

Nairobi is the headquarters duty station for the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) the United Nations agency mandated with ensuring better urban future by promoting socially and environmentally sustainable human settlements development and the achievement sustainable development goal 11 (SDG 11). Although the mandate of UN-Habitat is global, the agency has placed special emphasis on working for the benefit of the host country through contributing to Kenya's development priorities in a variety of ways. UN-Habitat Regional Office in Africa (ROAf) located in Nairobi, Kenya, is supporting priorities of member states and governments to achieve sustainable urban development. Implementation of Kenya programmes is carried out within the ROAf.

JOB SUMMARY

Qualifications/special skillsApplicants must at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements: Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent), Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent.Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite). Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.Preferred areas of study: Environmental Sustainability Studies related or any other related field of study that equips the intern with strong written and verbal communication skills, strategic thinking abilities, and a passion for advocating for social and environmental causes.Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master's or Ph.D.Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor's, Master's or Ph.D. Programme. RESPONSIBILITIES

Content Creation:Develop compelling advocacy materials, including articles, blog posts, social media posts, and newsletters, to effectively communicate key messages on sustainable urban development.Collaborate with WUC team members to create visually engaging content such as videos, to amplify advocacy efforts.Research and Analysis:Conduct in-depth research and drafting recommendation on best practices, and innovative solutions in sustainable urban development, contributing insights to inform advocacy campaigns and messaging.Event Coordination:Support the WUC team on planning, organization, and execution of advocacy events, workshops, and campaigns aimed at raising awareness and mobilizing support for urban sustainability initiatives.Coordinate logistics, manage participant communications, and ensure seamless execution of events both in-person and virtually.
