Expected duration: 6 MONTHS

Duties and Responsibilities:

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-Habitat, is the UN agency for Human Settlements. It is mandated to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities to provide adequate shelter for all.

As the UN focal point on human settlements, UN-Habitat will lead advocacy efforts to raise awareness of sustainable urbanization issues, provide evidence-based policy advice, and build capacities.

The World Urban Forum (WUF) is a non-legislative technical forum convened by UN-Habitat every two years since 2002, bringing together experts from various sectors.

PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES: To hire an individual contractor to support the World Urban Forum Coordination Office with WUF12 preparations, liaison with regional offices, and organizing briefings with key stakeholders.

Under the direct supervision of the WUF Coordinator, the individual contractor will:

  • Provide administrative support in managing priorities, workflows, and activities.
  • Compile and analyze data, prepare reports, and manage correspondence.
  • Organize meetings, handle administrative procedures, and process confidential information.
  • Update databases, develop reports, and assist with data collection and analysis.

Work involves interaction with senior officials within the UN Secretariat, UN system, government officials, media, and international organizations.

Results Expected: Demonstrate effective handling of administrative support, establish office procedures, provide timely tracking and monitoring of processes, and act as a key communications link.

Qualifications/Special Skills:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Degree in administrative services, human resources, finance, or related area highly desirable.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in administrative services required.
  • Experience dealing with time-sensitive and confidential administrative matters supporting senior officials desirable.
  • Working experience within the UN System or similar organization desirable.
  • Experience in data analytics or related area desirable.

Languages: Fluency in oral and written English required, knowledge of another official UN language is an advantage.
