Nairobi, Nairobi Area, Kenya Kuhne Foundation Full time

JOB SUMMARY

About the ProjectThe non-profit Kühne Foundation is a Swiss foundation with German roots and a global orientation. The foundation supports projects in the areas of Logistics, Medicine, Culture and Climate. It has offices in different regions of the world, including in East Africa, in both Nairobi and Dar-Es-Salaam. Through the newly established Climate Center, the Kühne Foundation intends to develop projects that contribute to an equally efficient, growth-promoting and globally responsible green transformation. Given the importance of ensuring development in low- and middle-income countries is low carbon and resilient, the Center will mainstream adaptation and resilience into all its work: advocacy, capacity building, and implementation projects. The unique position of the Center is to fill the critical gap of logistics operations in the full supply chain with all its stakeholders. One of the Center's first projects is 'Lifelines through Resilient Supply Chains' that aims to create supply chains that are more resilient in the face of climate change and reduce emissions at the same time. Lifelines are created in three steps: supply chain assessment of climate and other threats and impacts. response measures to strengthen the weakest links in supply chains and reduce Green House Gas (GHGs) and other impacts. and implementation with partners of feasible measures and long-term collaboration, with fairly shared benefits and costs. The project focuses on testing the Lifelines steps for agriculture/food supply chains originating in East Africa. For this purpose, we are looking to recruit a Specialist - Supply Chain Resilience %) (Nairobi, Kenya or Dar-Es-Salaam, Tanzania) The Specialist Supply Chain Resilience will play a pivotal role in establishing resilient supply chains for East African countries. The Specialist will carry out the assessment of supply chains on climate risks, develop response measures, and work with both local and international partners across 2 food or agricultural supply chains starting in East Africa.Your mission1. Supply Chain Assessment Map the end-to-end supply chain elements and dependent communities and key stakeholders. Assess climate risks as a combination of hazards, together with the vulnerability and exposure across six systems (food and agriculture, water and nature, coastal and oceans, human settlements, health, and infrastructure) Analyse the environmental, social and economic impacts from supply chain disruption. 2. Response Measures Identify the weakest links in the supply chain based on the risk of disruption and resulting impacts List existing and potential resilience measures. Identify GHG emission mitigation opportunities that can be implemented as part of a package of resilience measures. Assess the feasibility of additional measures and potential for risk reduction, compare these with reactive and shift responses, and identify implementation steps. 3. Implementation with Partners Identify and consult with private sector companies linked to the supply chains, and relevant initiatives. Coordinate implementation and monitoring & evaluation of priority measures, facilitate exchange between partners and stakeholders, and communicate results.4. Project, Center and Foundation Support Identify and maintain relationships with relevant stakeholders for East Africa and the selected supply chains who could be included in a Project Steering Group.Organize and carry out necessary research, consultations, workshops/events, trainings, and communication in support of the project. Contribute to the Center's broader activities on climate change mitigation, adaptation and finance, and to the Kühne Foundation's other programs in East Africa as required.
