Position Overview:

Being the Senior Technical Adviser, Africa under the guidance of the Associate Director, Advocacy and External Relations, you will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of a substantial Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights project across Zambia, Uganda, and Kenya. Your main responsibilities will include managing project resources efficiently, overseeing budgets, supervising field operations, procurement, monitoring and evaluation, and ensuring deliverables meet high standards of quality and timeliness.

It is vital to stay informed about ASRHR trends at a regional level, successfully lead partner management, and engage externally within the assigned scope. Prior experience in similar bilateral donor projects is necessary, along with a strong commitment to empowering women and youth through impactful programming and fostering meaningful partnerships. Collaborating closely with other project partners, specifically CARE Canada's Global Health team, will be a key aspect of this role.

This is a fixed-term role that will end on March 31st, 2028. Based in the Nairobi office, this position follows a hybrid work model with 3 days in the office and 2 days remote.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage the implementation of CRR's SHE SOARS project using Results Based Management principles.
  • Ensure adherence to work plans, budgets, and timelines in Kenya, Uganda, and Zambia.
  • Lead ASRHR advocacy efforts at the regional level.
  • Maintain oversight on program implementation quality and workload distribution within the project team.
  • Ensure compliance with donor contracts, including reporting and administrative procedures.
  • Liaise with Care Canada's Program Management Unit, donors, and other stakeholders.
  • Represent the project at various forums and build partnerships with stakeholders.
  • Coordinate advocacy, policy support, and demand generation across project sites.

Networking and Advocacy:

  • Establish and manage partnerships with regional governments, key partners, and institutions.
  • Guide knowledge development, documentation, and communication efforts.
  • Act as a resource for knowledge dissemination to various institutions.

Team Management:

  • Supervise the SHE SOARS project team and ensure performance aligns with organizational values.
  • Clarify roles, set objectives, and motivate team members for effective program delivery.
  • Support staff in skills development and capacity building as per program needs.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Laws or a bachelor's degree in a social science-related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years experience managing donor-funded projects.
  • Knowledge of international human rights, women's rights, and African regional human rights mechanisms.
  • Advocacy experience at regional and international levels.
  • Expertise in project management and change strategy development.
  • Experience in policy development, monitoring, and stakeholder management.
