Position Summary:
The Director of Development, Foundations will focus on Teach For All's Foundations portfolio, playing a crucial role in securing significant resources from global foundations, which make up a substantial part of Teach For All's total revenue requirements. Reporting to the Head of Foundations, the Director will closely collaborate with her and Teach For All's CEO to implement the fundraising strategy. The aim is to establish and nourish a dedicated community of foundations that share in Teach For All's vision of fostering collective leadership to empower all children. This role involves securing financial commitments from global foundations to sustain Teach For All's worldwide initiatives.
The primary responsibility of the Director of Development is to spearhead the development of foundation partnerships and growth strategies to raise substantial resources from global foundations for the Teach For All organization and its network partners through subgrants and the Catalyst Fund.
Outcomes:
- Manage a portfolio of foundation donors to ensure successful partnerships and maximize fundraising potential for the global organization and network.
- Collaborate with executive staff and program leaders globally to identify and cultivate new prospects, with a focus on larger donation levels.
- Play a crucial role in contributing to Teach For All's fundraising objectives and, when applicable, support in fundraising for network partners.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Fundraising and Donor Relations:
- Manage a portfolio of top-level institutional funders and foster these partnerships alongside program and organizational leadership.
- Lead efforts to expand the base of foundation funding by maximizing support from current donors and identifying new prospects.
- Organize and facilitate donor engagement activities and special projects as needed.
Communications:
- Craft and refine formal proposals, reports, letters, and other donor-related materials. This includes creating new content, adapting existing material, and reviewing colleagues' work as necessary.
- Collaborate with network partner staff to develop compelling proposals for Foundations donors to directly support network partners.
- Maintain detailed internal records and ensure relevant information is appropriately shared internally.
Project Management and Relationship Building:
- Oversee cross-organizational projects, initiatives, and reports from conception to completion, utilizing expertise across the organization as required.
- Partner with program staff to advance shared objectives.
- Cultivate relationships and knowledge to act as a thought leader for Teach For All's network partners in gaining funding and assistance from foundations.
Systems and Operations:
- Update and manage Salesforce for a specific foundation donor portfolio, collaborating closely with the Senior Associate to ensure accurate representation of the entire portfolio.
- Work with the Senior Associate to enhance the foundations pipeline and systems.
- Monitor progress to ensure optimal utilization of Salesforce and other data tracking tools.
As the ideal candidate, you will bring:
- 5-8 years of full-time work experience.
- Previous involvement with one of our network partner organizations, either as a participant or staff member, is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated success in fundraising.
- Experience in foundation giving, philanthropy, and marketing strategies.
- Demonstrate Teach For All's core values and a dedication to its mission.
- Capacity to excel in a dynamic environment, handling a high volume of work at a fast pace with rigorous attention to detail and quality.
- Exceptional writing and communication skills.
- Ability to navigate intricate donor and internal/network environments with sound judgment, strategic thinking, and tactical prowess.
- Comfort with considerable ambiguity.
- Proven ability to develop robust prospect lists and nurture relationships leading to extended and multi-year funding.
- Meticulous attention to detail.
- Demonstrated capability to set and execute a vision efficiently.
- Strong relationship-building and influencing skills.
- Sound reasoning and strategic thinking abilities, showcasing good judgment.
