HIAS is the global Jewish nonprofit organization that safeguards refugees, including vulnerable individuals, from diverse backgrounds facing persecution.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The MHPSS Associate plays a crucial role in offering mental health and psychosocial support to refugees and asylum seekers efficiently.
This role involves providing direct support to clients, conducting assessments, managing cases, and ensuring individuals receive appropriate care.
Additionally, the associate will engage in capacity-building initiatives and report to a Field Office Coordinator.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Establish standard procedures for delivering MHPSS services to refugees and asylum seekers in collaboration with the Program Manager.
- Develop assessments to identify critical psychosocial needs efficiently.
- Offer culturally sensitive MHPSS support to individuals facing distress, including children and caregivers.
- Conduct psychoeducation activities to raise awareness about mental health services.
- Support community groups and establish referral networks for vulnerable individuals.
- Build linkages with service providers to enhance referral pathways.
- Provide crisis intervention to partners and ensure compliance with reporting standards.
- Identify training requirements and deliver necessary training to staff.
- Promote mental health support in affected communities.
- Analyze and implement interventions to enhance resilience.
- Regularly report on MHPSS services and client progress.
- Contribute to program reviews and propose new interventions.
- Perform additional duties as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
- Degree in psychology, sociology, social work, or related fields.
- 1-2 years of experience in MHPSS programming, preferably in emergency settings.
- Familiarity with MHPSS global standards and humanitarian guidelines.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold client respect.
- Experience in capacity building, diversity training, and community awareness programs.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Professional demeanor with integrity.
- Effective cross-cultural communication and teamwork abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and excellent computer skills.
- Knowledge of Accountability to Affected Populations, PSEA, and Anti-Fraud measures.
