O&M Associate

Job Summary

As an O&M Associate at PowerGen, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our micro-grids, addressing unplanned problems, and contributing to the creation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPS) and work plans.

PowerGen provides turnkey energy solutions to residential, community, commercial, and industrial customers in East Africa and beyond. Founded in 2011, our focus is on providing robust photo-voltaic and wind systems for off-grid demands.

As a key member of the PowerGen Grid Operations team, you will be focused on supporting our customers who use electricity from our micro-grids each day.

You will report to the O&M Lead and work closely with the entire Grid Operations team.

Key Responsibilities:

• Address and solve unplanned problems on-site, which are either identified by system monitoring or reported by a customer
• Build and hire various Technicians to support the team's goals and objectives
• Contribute to the creation of SOPS, processes, templates, and work plans to ensure smooth and efficient operation of the O&M team
• Establish a comprehensive understanding of issues through detailed fact-finding and implement established procedures for correcting issues in a timely fashion
• Work with various PowerGen stakeholders to identify and solve issues correctly
• Schedule and plan preventative maintenance activities, including quarterly maintenance trips and regularly scheduled diesel generator refueling trips
• Provide feedback in a standardized manner across various teams at PowerGen to enable long-term improvement of design, installation, service, and O&M

Qualifications:

• 3+ years' experience in engineering construction, operation, and maintenance services, preferably in overhead distribution, PV solar installations, and generators
• Degree in Electrical Engineering or any related course
• Registration with a professional body such as EPRA
• Technical engineering background and a demonstrated ability to learn the specific technical aspects of the PowerGen business
• Fluency in Kiswahili and English, both in written and oral communications
• Kenyan citizenship
• Valid Drivers' License
• Ability to work with a team of 10+ full-time employees plus a number of contractors
• Budgeting skills for the team's operations
• Ability to train, manage, and ensure field employees are observing safety standards while working
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Flexibility and eagerness to lend a hand wherever needed, even if a specific task may fall outside the core job description
• Enthusiasm in working for the field of renewable energy
