Introduction

Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi (AKUH, N) is a private not-for-profit teaching hospital that provides tertiary and secondary level healthcare services. The University Hospital has been providing high quality care for the people of East Africa and beyond for over 60 years.

The Incumbent will provide supervision of staff and management of resources to deliver quality nursing care.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the team in the development of unit goals and objectives in collaboration with the Program Director

  • Collaborate with the team in development, implementation and review of policies, procedures, protocols, clinical pathways and care guidelines

  • Develop key performance indicators for the unit, both managerial and clinical

  • Undertake performance reviews of staff in Private Wing and develop action plans to ensure individual staff growth

  • Ensure staff coverage and skill mix for safe and effective patient care

  • Lead the team in establishment of standards of care and monitor delivery of care according to established key clinical indicators

  • Respond to clients complains in a timely manner by solving raised concerns or alert the relevant authorities

  • Develop and maintain effective network both internally and externally to improve nursing practice

  • Participate in the budget process and monitor budget variance

  • Identify and lead the team in quality improvement projects

    Requirements:
    • Registered Nurse with current licensure with the Nursing Council of Kenya

    • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BScN)

    • 5 years of continuous clinical experience in Medical-Surgical unit in an acute care hospital

    • Certificate in Basic Life Support (BLS)

    • Demonstrate expert knowledge in medical-surgical nursing procedures

    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

    • Ability to apply critical thinking and to work with minimum supervision.
