Control Risks is a specialist risk consultancy that helps to create secure, compliant and resilient organizations in an age of ever-changing risk. Working across disciplines, technologies and geographies, everything we do is based on our belief that taking risks is essential to our clients' success.

Control Risks is seeking a Watchkeeper to join our Nairobi-based Regional Operations Centre (ROC). This role supports 24/7 situational awareness and incident response across East Africa by monitoring open-source and proprietary platforms, maintaining real-time operational dashboards, and ensuring timely escalation of security incidents. The Watchkeeper plays a critical role in delivering accurate reporting, coordinating with internal teams and external stakeholders, and supporting clients with live information during crises. Ideal candidates will have strong attention to detail, thrive under pressure, and bring experience from security, intelligence, or operational monitoring environments. This is a shift-based role requiring round-the-clock availability.

Task and Responsibilities.

  • Monitor open-source and proprietary intelligence platforms for real-time incident detection across East Africa
  • Maintain and update operational dashboards to reflect current threat environments and regional developments
  • Escalate security incidents promptly and accurately in accordance with internal protocols
  • Provide timely and concise reporting to clients and internal teams during emerging events or crises
  • Coordinate with regional teams, vendors, and external stakeholders during live incidents
  • Track and assess political, security, and operational developments that may impact client operations
  • Support Control Risks consultants with incident data, situational awareness, and logistics coordination
  • Maintain accurate logs, shift handover notes, and incident records in designated systems
  • Participate in shift-based roster to ensure 24/7 monitoring and coverage
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of monitoring tools, alerting thresholds, and escalation workflows

Requirements

  • 1–3 years of experience in a security, intelligence, military, or operational support environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, 24/7 operations environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and situational awareness tools (e.g., mapping, tracking, or incident management platforms)
  • High attention to detail and ability to assess evolving situations quickly
  • Willingness to work rotational shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • (Desirable) Knowledge of East African regional security dynamics and fluency in Swahili or French

Benefits

  • Control Risks offers a competitively positioned compensation and benefits package that is transparent and summarised in the full job offer.
  • We operate a discretionary global bonus scheme that incentivises, and rewards individuals based on company and individual performance.
  • Control Risks supports hybrid working arrangements, wherever possible, that emphasise the value of in-person time together - in the office and with our clients - while continuing to support flexible and remote working
