Nairobi, Nairobi Area, Kenya VSO Full time 1,200,000 - 2,400,000 per year

Role Overview
Working at VSO

VSO is a not-for-profit organisation that promotes volunteering as a powerful and practical way to tackle poverty and inequality. Our purpose is to create lasting change through volunteering.

At VSO, we believe in bringing about change, not by sending aid, but by working with volunteers and partners to empower people in some of the world's poorest and most fragile regions. We know that people in developing countries have the desire, power, courage and determination to shape their own futures.

Through our Volunteering for Development (VfD) approach, we put the most marginalised people first. Grounded in years of evidence and learning, this approach develops active citizens who drive local community-led change and deliver sustainable development goals long after a project or grant ends.

Role Overview Summary
The Accompanier will work closely with a cluster of selected Civil Society Group (CSGs) in Turkana County to capacity build, strengthen and continue with mentorship through VSO (VfD) volunteering for Development Approach. They will also strengthen the CSG's technical, organizational and leadership capacity, fostering gender and disability inclusion, support adoption of accountability and participatory practices, amplify people's collective voice for policy influence and make the government accountable. The role will help to build trust, co-facilitate holistic participatory capacity strengthening processes through accompaniment, mentoring, coaching, peer-learnings and field exposure, encourage linkages for collaboration and enable CSGs to become self- reliant and sustainable. Working alongside other VSO volunteer team, project staff, and local implementing partners, the role supports a shift in power where CSGs lead and volunteers facilitate, empower, connect and enable-through equitable partnerships, mutual respect, and locally led development.
