Our Client, World Bicycle Relief (WBR), founded in 2005, operates globally in underserved markets where millions lack reliable transportation. By providing affordable, purpose-built bicycles, trained mechanics, and bicycle components, we empower individuals and communities with greater independence and better outcomes in healthcare, education, and economic opportunities, enabling them to thrive. Our efforts mainly focus on empowering women and girls, youth, and marginalized communities.

We are a non-profit social enterprise dedicated to addressing mobility poverty at scale through a sustainable bicycle ecosystem. At the core of this solution is the Buffalo Bicycle—a durable, gender-inclusive mobility tool built to withstand rugged rural conditions, with a sturdy frame and a 100kg carrying capacity. To ensure long-term usability, we have established a comprehensive support system, including local assembly, a network of trained mechanics, and a reliable bicycle component supply chain through retail shops and dealers. We operate more than 105 Buffalo retail shops in seven countries.

WBR's strategy is built on three pillars: Grow, Partner, and Influence. We grow by continuously improving our bicycle products and sustainable ecosystem solutions to meet consumer and partner demand and sales. We partner with development organizations and governments, providing technical expertise to implement high-impact bicycle mobility solutions that enhance healthcare, education, and economic outcomes. We influence by advocating through evidence the power of bicycles to amplify and accelerate progress in global development goals. Through 2024, WBR has distributed 868,300 bicycles globally and trained 3,620 mechanics, impacting 4.3 million lives.

Role Description

Purpose of Role:

The Business Development Officer is expected to grow sales, develop sales initiatives, and establish and maintain organizational engagements in coordination with the Country Manager. To plan, coordinate, implement, and manage new business development and sales engagements in line with the organization's strategic objectives and targets. The role holder will play a pivotal role in driving the development and growth of Buffalo Bicycles Kenya Ltd; responsible for identifying new business opportunities, cultivating relationships with potential clients/customers
(Including Government, NGOs, development partners, civil society, and private sector entities),
and developing strategies and promotional activities to expand our market presence and grow the Buffalo Bicycle brand. This position requires a combination of strategic thinking, sales expertise, and excellent communication skills to effectively promote Buffalo Bicycle products/services and achieve business objectives in a competitive and crowded marketplace.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Attainment of Business Sales Target, Sale of Bicycles, and technical expertise to organizations.
(Government, NGOs and development partners, civil society, and private sector entities)
with a monthly sales target through assigned customer accounts. The business Sales Targets will, however, be revised regularly to reflect projected Buffalo Bicycle Kenya Ltd. direction, opportunities, and objectives.

Planning and overseeing new market initiatives.

·  Conduct market assessments, analysis, and build networks to identify potential new opportunities and or client/customer segments across the target markets of government, NGOs, and development partners, civil society, and private sector entities.

· Working closely with the Country Manager to develop strategies to identify and enter new markets or expand existing ones. Markets to explore include government, NGOs and development partners, civil society, and private sector entities.

· Coordinate with relevant teams to implement new business and marketing initiatives. Contribute to the development of marketing materials, including fact sheets, presentations, and promotional posters.

· Consistently search and analyze relevant platforms where tenders, RFQs, and other procurement and development sector RFPs are posted or advertised (e.g., Newspapers, websites, govt e-procurement portals, etc.)

· Prepare and submit in coordination with country leadership and global support teams complete proposals to requests for quotations (RFQs), tenders, and other requests for Buffalo Bicycle products and prices.

· Supports the Country Manager – Kenya and WBR program team with the development of complete concept notes and proposals in response to requests from NGOs and other development partners.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Commercial acumen and leadership skills
  • Bachelor's Degree in a Business-related field. An MBA shall be an added advantage.
  • 5 years of experience in marketing, sales, and business development. Added advantage experience in the development sector working with NGOs, foundations, or the CSR department of a private sector company.
  • Ability to juggle several competing priorities from different clients/customers at the same time.
  • Excellent communication and networking skills, to build and maintain contact networks across a broad range of clients/customers (
    government, NGOs and development partners, civil society, and private sector entities
    ).
  • Attention to detail and a deep analytical mindset.
  • Excellent customer service
  • Excellent planning, good coordination, and facilitation skills
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Good people management and interpersonal skills, ability to innovate and reengineer processes.

Travel Required
:
May require 15% to 25% travel.
