Position OverviewWe are seeking a technically adept Sales Engineer who will act as a trusted advisor and product advocate for our machinery tools business in East Africa. The incumbent will identify customer requirements, articulate product capabilities and manage the full sales cycle from inquiry through to after-sales follow-up and account growth.
Key Responsibilities- Achieve and exceed assigned sales targets within the East Africa region.
- Identify and engage new customers, expand market presence and grow business.
- Prepare accurate and competitive quotations, proposals and contracts in alignment with customer requirements.
- Manage all stages of the sales process: from initial inquiry, quotation, LPO issuance, deal closure to after-sales follow-up.
- Lead the preparation and submission of RFPs, pre-qualifications, formal presentations and product demonstrations.
- Conduct client visits (existing and prospective), and provide weekly written reports on sales activities, project status and market developments.
- Prepare and deliver technical presentations/demonstrations explaining product capabilities and value-propositions to both business and technical audiences.
- Participate in internal sales meetings to validate strategies, refine tactics and plan next steps.
- Collect and report market intelligence including competitor activity, pricing trends and project updates.
- Identify opportunities for new product developments or enhancements, and provide recommendations to management.
- Represent the company at networking events, trade exhibitions and promotional activities to gather insights and promote products.
- Maintain long-term relationships with clients, ensuring service excellence, reliability and customer satisfaction.
- Track, analyse and report on potential markets, customer activities and product performance.
- Ensure all customer communications and documentation adhere to company's quality, content and format standards.
- Assist with mentoring, coaching and technical training within the team when required.
- Uphold the company's ethical and professional standards, policies, procedures and operational guidelines.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support divisional and corporate goals.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Business Administration (or equivalent) with strong technical background.
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in Sales/Business Development or a related technical sales role within industrial or machinery sectors.
- Demonstrated knowledge of engineering science/technology and its application in machinery design or production environments.
- Proven ability to interpret and communicate moderate to complex technical data.
- Superior verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical and decision-making capabilities.
- Prior customer-service experience with the ability to understand and respond to customer needs.
- Organised, able to juggle competing priorities and meet deadlines.
- Advanced MS Office skills; experience with CRM software to track/analyse sales metrics.
- Excellent negotiation skills; demonstrated results in meeting sales quotas or business development goals.
- Ability to lead, motivate or mentor others; professional, energetic attitude; strong work ethic.
- Detail-oriented, reliable, flexible and adaptable with a "can-do" attitude; able to work under pressure.
