Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Education (Special Needs) with specialization in learning difficulties.
- Certification in methods of educational assessments and access arrangements.
- 5 years of working experience in an international school.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a multicultural collaborative team and environment.
- Teachers Service Commission (TSC) registration certificate.
- Certificate of good conduct.

The Aga Khan Academy, Nairobi (AKA, Nairobi) is an IB continuum school in Kenya authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate curriculum (IB) from Early Years through to Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), and Diploma Programme (DP). With over 1000 students, AKA, Nairobi is a multi-cultural school with a variety of nationalities represented in our student and teaching faculty.
The Aga Khan Academy, Nairobi - Senior School has an opening for the position of: Learning Support Teacher, with the ability to teach English.
Role Summary
The Learning Support Teacher reports to the Head of Department (English). The Learning Support Teacher will provide assistance to teachers in designing and implementing inclusion strategy, implementing Individual Education Plans in and out of class and facilitating continuous implementation of IB philosophies. The incumbent will also assist the Teachers to model, team-teach and evaluate child-centred, inquiry-based learning within the classrooms.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify and Support Students with Learning Differences: Identify children who require additional support and/or those with learning differences.
- Provide Individualized Instruction: Offer tailor-made instruction to meet the specific needs of children with learning differences.
- Monitor and Assess Progress: Continuously monitor and track student learning and progress using individual, class, and school-wide assessments.
- Implement Intervention Strategies: Accommodate the diverse needs of students by recommending effective intervention strategies within a mainstream classroom setting.
- Design Individualized Reports: Create comprehensive, individualized reports based on student progress and assessments.
- Develop Individual Education Plans (IEPs): Collaborate to design and implement individual education plans tailored to the unique needs of each student. Proactively communicate regularly and constructively with families, through conferences and IEP reports, to keep them informed of student progress.
- Use Diverse Teaching Strategies: Apply a range of teaching strategies to engage students and foster academic growth.
- Utilize Resource-Based Activities: Incorporate resource-based learning activities to support differentiated instruction.
- Develop Policies and Procedures: Develop and implement policies and procedures related to Special Needs and Learning Support programs.
- Coordinate Learning Support Programs: Lead and manage learning support programs and personnel within the school.
- Collaborate with Support Services: Coordinate with both internal and external support services, agencies and professionals to ensure holistic support for students.
- Protect the safety and wellbeing of children, ensuring a secure and supportive learning environment.
- Promote a positive learning environment, supporting the social-emotional and behavioral learning needs of students proactively.
- Engage in ongoing professional learning to continually improve teaching practices and student support.
- Implement the school's strategic focus areas, particularly in learning design, inclusion and wellbeing.
- Be an engaged member of the school community, including designing or supporting interventions both during and outside regular class time.
- Lead meetings before, during and after school, as well as mentor and coach extracurricular learning activities beyond the school day.
