The Director of Photography (DoP) will lead the visual storytelling for the documentary, ensuring the highest quality in composition, lighting, and overall visual aesthetic. They will collaborate closely with the Director and production team to align the visual elements with the documentary's sensitive and impactful message. This role includes managing camera and lighting crews, scouting locations, and ensuring that all visual content adheres to ethical and professional standards.Responsibilities:1. Develop and articulate the documentary's visual style, including composition, lighting, and overall aesthetic.2. Collaborate with the Director and Producers to align visual elements with the documentary's vision.3. Oversee and manage camera and lighting crews, ensuring seamless teamwork.4. Select and maintain camera, lens, lighting, and stabilization equipment for optimal production quality.5. Plan and execute creative shots that effectively communicate the story.6. Conduct location scouts to determine the best shooting angles, lighting, and technical setups.7. Ensure sensitivity and respect in visually representing subjects and communities.8. Manage visual aspects such as exposure, color, framing, and composition during filming.9. Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with camera and lighting equipment.10. Collaborate with the editing team to ensure visual continuity and adherence to the agreed -upon style.11. Create and manage shot lists and storyboards for production planning.12. Adhere to legal and regulatory filming requirements and ensure ethical practices.13. Foster a collaborative, positive, and safe work environment for the crew and talent.14. Monitor progress, document changes, and report regularly to stakeholders.15. Work under strict deadlines to ensure timely project completion while maintaining quality. RequirementsSkills:1. Mastery of cinematography techniques, including composition, lighting, and motion.2. Proficiency with professional camera systems (e.g., Arri, RED) and lighting setups.3. Strong technical skills in cinematography software (e.g., DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Premiere).4. Excellent visual storytelling and color grading abilities.5. Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain high visual standards.6. Effective leadership and team management skills.7. Ability to adapt to changes in production and solve problems under pressure.8. Experience conducting location scouting and managing visual production logistics.9. Knowledge of ethical and legal standards in visual representation and documentary filmmaking.10. Creative thinking and the ability to contribute fresh visual ideas to enhance storytelling.Competencies:1.
