Work Environment:

This position will be a full-time position, based in Nairobi, Kenya reporting to the Kenya Country Director.  The atmosphere of Edify is one where you can expect to perform widely varied tasks with various functional groups. Edify believes in the importance of using local resources to avoid duplication and build local capacity. Most of its program activities are, therefore, implemented in partnership with local microfinance and training organizations.  There will also be collaboration with Edify's global team in the other countries where Edify operates.

Travel Expectations:

The position includes both local and regional travels. Additionally, Edify holds an annual all-staff meeting, alternating in a US-based or international location each year. All Edify Staff are required to attend this meeting.

Job Summary:

The Impact Assessment Officer (IAO) is the in-country lead responsible for designing and executing Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) systems that ensure the delivery of high-quality data. The IAO's work, which thrives on relation management, is critical for learning, evidence-based decision-making, and the continuous improvement of Edify's interventions in four core impact areas. The role involves technical leadership, staff capacity building, and ensuring program activities are tightly linked to the organizational mission and global priorities.

The IAO reports directly to the Country Director and collaborates closely with the Director of Impact Assessment to ensure consistency and compliance across all impact activities.

Key Duties/Responsibilities:

Stakeholder and Relationship Management

  • Develop and maintain relationships with Christ-centered organizations and strategic partners to foster country program growth.
  • Facilitate effective communication between Edify teams and external stakeholders.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration and mutual support within the team.

Monitoring and Evaluation Systems Design and Management

  • Design and implement monitoring and evaluation strategies and practices appropriate for staff, partners, and consultants.
  • Facilitate the use of the Outcomes Map in program design and implementation.
  • Design systems for data collection, analysis, and use.
  • Create and maintain indicator tracking tools to assess program progress.
  • Develop strategies to achieve country and global priorities.
  • Design monitoring plans and tools for specific activities and projects
  • Support Edify country team and other Edify consultants in implementing monitoring and evaluation strategies and practices that are appropriate to their individual staff and consulting roles.
  • Collaborate with Edify staff and consultants to assess program activities.

Data Quality Assurance

  • Work closely with the Impact Assessment team to provide technical support and necessary tools for implementing training lessons among partner schools.
  • Conduct staff capacity on monitoring, evaluation, and learning processes and practices.
  • Ensure the timely and credible collection of data.
  • Promote the proper use of training assessment tools.
  • Recommend improvements for indicators and data collection processes.

Program Improvement

  • Conduct data analysis and reporting, compiling quality and timely reports on progress and lessons learned.
  • Ensure and reinforce program planning and execution align with global priorities and timelines.
  • Share relevant data for program planning and decision-making.
  • Recommend improvements for program effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Support program leads in using program reports for decision-making.

Other Duties/Responsibilities:

The IAO may be assigned additional tasks by the Country Director and/or the Director of Impact assessment, utilizing their skill set and supporting the ongoing needs and capacity enhancement of the country program. This includes, but is not limited to:

Hosting Visiting Edify Staff and Stakeholders

  • Coordinate logistics for visiting staff and stakeholders where needed.
  • Facilitate productive meetings and discussions.
  • Ensure a positive and informative experience for visitors.
  • Gather feedback from visitors to improve future visits.
  • Follow up with visitors to ensure effective communication and collaboration.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong organizational skills, including effective time management and prioritization of competing demands/multiple deadlines
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent knowledge of data collection protocols for quality data collection and verification
  • Demonstrated experience with research methodologies, qualitative and quantitative research methods, data analysis, sampling techniques and establishing Impact Assessment systems.
  • Strong understanding of the Kenyan education sector.
  • Exceptional written and spoken communication skills (including presentations) required.
  • Experience in planning and facilitating meetings.
  • Demonstrated experience building partnerships and networks between government and civil society

Education and Experience:

  • Although not limited, degrees in the field of development work, social work, Monitoring and Evaluation and/ or statistics are desirable.
  • At least 3 years' experience in the design and implementation of Impact Assessment Systems or plans.
  • At least 3 years work experience in education in Kenya
  • Extensive experience in data collection and data management.
  • Experience in developing systems for data verification and cleaning.
  • Knowledge of effective teaching practices and research techniques.
  • Experience with educational technology is helpful.
