Summary
This is entry-level clerical, customer service and staff support work of a routine nature in the Regional Transit System (RTS).
Positions allocated to this classification report to a designated supervisor and work under general supervision. Work in this class is distinguished from higher classes by its routine, non-complex nature and from lower classes by its clerical, customer service and staff support duties.

Essential Job Functions
Depending on Assignment:
Distributes bus packets and checks drivers' report time and end time, annotating variances, as applicable.
Monitors and assigns extra board and/or standby operators in accordance with RTS policy.
Performs customer service duties; provides schedule and fare information to callers, assists with route planning and prepares information for community reports.
Working from the front window work station, provides backup break coverage for Dispatcher, as needed. Follows RTS policies and procedures for dispatching Transit Operators on assigned routes and schedules, receives and transmits messages on radio and telephone, maintains logs, makes bus assignments and replacements and reports vehicle repair issues to Maintenance.
Acts as a receptionist, answers phones and responds to inquiries, referring non-routine information requests. Controls gate access for employees and visitors, logs and issues visitor passes and accepts incoming packages and distributes to appropriate staff.
Administers leave request forms: accepts, date stamps, reviews to ensure that forms are completed and signed, copies and distributes. Monitors the employee sick line.
Provides clerical and administrative staff support backup.
Keeps departmental calendars, including scheduling meetings.
Obtains needed supplies and distributes to appropriate staff.
Collects, compiles, prepares, distributes and maintains regular reports, accounts, correspondence, forms, data, records and information.
Operates and helps maintain all office machines, including computers, copiers and printers.
Oversees lost and found; receives and logs items, responds to customer and employee inquiries and distributes to the rightful owner.
Receives, processes and distributes mail.
Issues, receives and maintains vendor applications/lists.
Assists staff with the entry and evaluation of standard materials bids.
Performs cash reconciliation, as needed.
Attends work on a continuous and regular basis.
Non-essential Job Functions
Depending on Assignment:
May be required to work the cash box probe line.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job function satisfactorily. Below are the required education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions.
Education And Experience
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma, and one (1) year of clerical or customer service experience, preferably in a transit operation environment,; or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Personal Computer Operations Experience Required
Typing at a speed acceptable to department needs may be required.

Ability to research archived logs and reports to retrieve relevant data.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to perform varied office and clerical work involving administrative responsibility.
Skill in accurately handling large sums of money.
Physical And Environmental Requirements
To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess certain physical abilities and be able to withstand work related environmental conditions.
Physical Requirements
Work may require physical strength and agility sufficient to lift or move heavy packages, materials and supplies up to 50 pounds.
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is often required to sit for prolonged periods of time.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Extended hours, split shift and weekend work may be required.
