Introduction

You will be leading the psychology department and working alongside members of the Multi-disciplinary Team (MDT), to offer patient-centred care and plan and facilitate mental health and safeguarding training to local organisations and institutions.

Job Purpose
The Psychologist will provide psychological assessments, therapy, and psychosocial support to individuals and groups affected by trauma, abuse, loss, or mental health challenges. The role ensures that care is person-centred, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive while promoting community resilience and wellbeing. The psychologist will also provide planning and facilitation of mental health training and advocacy.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct psychological assessments, diagnostics, and therapy sessions.
- Provide trauma-informed counselling and crisis interventions.
- Support programme design and implementation on mental wellbeing.
- Facilitate training and workshops on psychological health.
- Collaborate with safeguarding teams to deliver integrated care.
- Maintain accurate client records, gain consent and ensure confidentiality in client interactions.
- Contribute to research, reporting, and advocacy initiatives.
- Conduct training activities within departments that contribute towards meeting organizational goals.
- Adhere to professional ethics and participate in supervision.
- Work therapeutically with service users with complex presentations, undertake the assessments using a broad range of structured psychometric and semistructured clinical methods.
- Formulate and implement plans of specialist psychological treatment or management of patients' mental health needs based on a multi-factorial psychological understanding and current evidence based best practice.
- Be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of clinical work and care.
Educational Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Psychology, Counselling Psychology, or Clinical Psychology
(required)
. - Doctorate Degree in Clinical or Counselling Psychology
(preferred)
. - Registration or eligibility for registration with the The Counsellors and Psychologists Board.
- Additional training in trauma counselling, safeguarding, or psychosocial first aid
(desirable)

Experience
- Experience of work in psychological interventions with adults, children, young people and their families in a range of service settings or agencies.
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience in clinical or counselling settings.
- Proven expertise in trauma therapy, grief counselling, or crisis intervention.
- Experience in NGO, educational, or community health contexts preferred.
- Experience of work in psychological interventions with children, young people and their families in a range of service settings or agencies.
- Experience in undertaking leadership roles within clinical psychology services.
- Experience in teaching and education roles.
- Experience of delivering clinical supervision.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Deep understanding of trauma-informed care and safeguarding principles.
- Strong counselling and therapeutic skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and ethical standards.
- Skilled in report writing, facilitation, and client engagement.
- Critical thinking skills and awareness of cross-cultural approaches to mental health care.
- Specialist knowledge of child development and the impact of adverse childhood experiences.
- Ability to effectively teach and deliver training on mental health and safeguarding.
- Ability to lead on psychological initiatives and training within the organization.
- Ability to apply psychological practice in different cultural contexts.
- Ability to time manage effectively and to work under pressure whilst prioritizing a clinical workload.
- Ability to recognise and report behaviour that undermines equality and diversity.
