We are a mission-driven company working to bring clean and modern energy solutions – especially electric cooking – to underserved households in East Africa. Our work directly supports climate goals and gender equity by helping rural families, particularly women, transition away from polluting fuels like charcoal and firewood. We're a small but ambitious team of around 80 people, based mainly in Kenya and Uganda, with a growing number of remote roles across the region and internationally. About the role
We are looking to hire Credit Officers
to be based in several rural areas across Kenya and Uganda to recover overdue loans and follow up with non-compliant groups. This is a key support role responsible for ensuring that clients continue to receive high-quality after-sales service and that they repay according to the group financing agreements they signed.
The Credit Officer will manage the full credit portfolio of an assigned territory, maintain strong relationships with client groups, and secure timely repayments. This is a field-based position, supported by your Area Coordinator and our internal credit systems.

Kenya – Kitale, Webuye, Mumias, Kapsabet, Kericho, Kangari, Siaya
Uganda – Mbale, Mayuge
What You'll Do
1. Portfolio Management & Collections
o Take full ownership of the credit portfolio for your assigned areas.
o Make regular outbound calls and in-person visits to remind clients and Group Leaders of their payment obligations.
o Secure commitments to pay and follow up to ensure payments are made.
o Conduct group arrears meetings when needed, and coordinate repossessions or transfers in cases of deep arrears.
o Track all interactions and payment statuses using internal tools.
2. Client Relationship & Field Support
o Serve as the main contact point for clients in areas where we no longer have sales staff.
o Build trust and ensure that client concerns are heard and addressed.
o Provide updates on group performance and arrears status to your Area Coordinator.
3. Tools & Systems
o Use Bidhaa Sasa's established M&E systems (e.g. Taroworks) to record field data, repayment progress, and follow-up efforts accurately.
o Maintain up-to-date records and provide regular reports on repayment status.
What You'll Bring
o Prior experience in credit collection, loan management, or community engagement is a strong advantage.
o You are self-motivated, organised, and capable of working independently to achieve set targets.
o High level of accountability and ownership, with the ability to work under minimal supervision.
o Strong listening skills, empathy, and the ability to build and maintain long-term relationships with clients.
o Comfort working in the field and navigating rural areas. Transport and safety protocols are in place, and you'll receive full support from your manager in the field.
o A deep passion for rural development and supporting underserved communities.
o You are respectful, value diversity, and can thrive in a multicultural environment.
o Strong communication skills in English and the ability to speak clearly in at least two of the following local dialects: Kiswahili, Bukusu, Kikuyu, Wanga , Kalenjin or Luo / Luganda, Lugisu or Lusoga.
o A diploma in a relevant field such as Sales, Business, Credit Management, or Community Development.
