HIAS is a worldwide Jewish nonprofit organization dedicated to safeguarding refugees, including vulnerable groups like women, children, and minorities facing peril due to their identities.


POSITION SUMMARY:


The Gender and GBV Associate will primarily focus on delivering comprehensive frontline interventions for gender-based violence (GBV) and enhancing protection through advocacy and mainstreaming protection efforts.

The role involves identifying and reaching out to marginalized groups that are often overlooked in service provision, such as women, children, elderly individuals, and persons with disabilities. Special emphasis will be placed on vulnerable groups facing systemic barriers, like undocumented refugees and LGBTIQ+ individuals, to bolster protection for at-risk refugees.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Provide post-GBV services to female survivors of violence and trauma.
  • Assist refugee women and girls in need of social support, including financial aid, medical assistance, and legal protection.
  • Conduct social assessments to address risks faced by refugee women and girls promptly.
  • Refer individuals requiring psychosocial support to appropriate services.
  • Collaborate with outreach workers to assess needs and progress of refugee women and girls.
  • Deliver training to HIAS staff on safety and GBV response capabilities.
  • Engage in GBV response activities and community dialogues to prevent violence against women and girls.
  • Refer vulnerable individuals to partner agencies and monitor service access.
  • Track GBV trends, prepare summaries for review, and disseminate information on available services.
  • Establish community networks for referrals and support linking and learning forums.
  • Update client information in the data management system and provide periodic analyses.
  • Prepare reports on client progress and overall project activities.
  • Undertake any other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
  • University Degree in Social Work, Community Development, or Gender and Development Studies.
  • 1-2 years of experience in Social Work.
  • Experience with humanitarian NGOs is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of UN Convention on the Refugee Act and Sexual Abuse Prevention and Response.
  • Experience in capacity building, diversity and inclusion, and community-based training.
  • Familiarity with Nairobi and surroundings.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Computer Applications.
  • Ability to thrive in high-pressure settings.
  • Understanding of Accountability to Affected Populations and knowledge in PSEA and Anti-Fraud.
