ABOUT THE COMPANY
The Nyayo Tea Zones Development Corporation was established through a Legal Gazette Notice No. 265 of 1986 as a State Corporation with the aim of promoting forest conservation by providing buffer zones of tea and assorted tree species to check against human encroachment into the forestland.
The Corporation is mandated to protect the gazetted forests from human encroachment by establishing continuous belts of tea bushes and assorted tree species which acts as a buffer between forests and communities living adjacent to the forests. The tea zones not only help to protect the forests but also in the rehabilitation of ecologically fragile areas.
The Corporation was established by the Government of Kenya to enhance the conservation of forests and protection of the environment, to produce the internationally renowned Kenyan quality tea, to produce fuel-wood that is essential in tea processing, to create jobs as well as earn revenue for the Kenyan government. Specifically, the Corporation is mandated to establish, manage and develop tea and fuel wood plantations and indigenous trees; establish and manage nurseries for propagation of tea and tree seedlings; establish, manage and maintain tea processing factories and process tea. The Corporation is also mandated to construct and maintain rural access roads, offices and green leaf collection centres and transport, lease, sell or market in Kenya or outside Kenya any tea, wood or other products produced or processed by the Corporation or its agents.
The Corporation operates in seventeen zones across the country.
JOB SUMMARY
Person SpecificationsFor appointment to this grade, an officer must have:A cumulative service period of fifteen (15) years relevant work experience, three (3) years of which should have been in a management level;Bachelors Degree in any of the following Engineering disciplines: Mechanical, Electrical or other relevant qualification from a recognized institution;Masters Degree in any of the following Engineering disciplines: Mechanical, Electrical or other relevant qualification from a recognized institution;Registration by Engineers Board of Kenya as a Professional Engineer;Valid Annual Practicing License from the Engineers Board of Kenya;Membership with Institute of Engineers of Kenya;Leadership Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution;Proficiency in computer application skills; and Demonstrated a high degree of professional competence, managerial and administrative capability as reflected in work performance and results.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Developing reviewing and implementing Factory policies, regulations, procedures, systems and strategies;Developing, reviewing and implementing production and maintenance operating manuals for the factory units;Coordinating the fabrication of production machines, equipment, parts and spare parts;Coordinating installation and testing of machines and equipment;Producing and distributing utilities (Steam, compressed air, water, hydrant system, Electricality and Humidification plants);Coordinating Electrical and mechanical works;Monitoring and evaluating engineering works;Preparing documentation for various engineering works;Coordinating the overhaul and modification of machines and machine parts;Preparing the bill of quantities for various works;Overseeing inspection and acceptance of machines;Carrying out machines and equipment maintenance;Ensure safety standards/procedures are adhered to accordingly;Developing and coordinating the implementation of quality operating manuals and guidelines for Engineering Division;Undertaking research on emerging issues on engineering best practices; and Staff training, development and performance management.
