Transboundary Risk and Early Warning Expert – Africa Multi-Hazard Early Warning and Early Action

Responsibilities:
- Recruit a consultant to enhance the capacity of the AUC, RECs, and Member States through the AMHEWAS programme for improved transboundary disaster risk management.
- Assist AUC, RECs, and Member States in identifying and managing transboundary risks, integrating them into early warning and early action initiatives of the AMHEWAS programme.
- Engage with the AUC's AMHEWAS Programme Manager and UNDRR Regional Office for Africa to develop key deliverables.
Qualifications/Special Skills:
- Hold an advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in Disaster Risk Management/Reduction, Environmental Science, Geography, Hydrology, or related fields.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in Africa at national or international levels implementing Disaster Risk Reduction Programmes or similar domains.
- Previous involvement in managing early warning or disaster operations projects, ideally in Africa at regional or national levels in DRR/M.
- Desirable experience in collaborating with regional organizations and Member States on policy and protocol formulation.
- Knowledge of early warning/early action systems, including hydro-meteorological hazards assessment, vulnerability assessment, weather forecasting, and monitoring.
- Familiarity with leading or contributing to country-led strategic development initiatives.
- Experience with governmental institutions or international organizations focusing on early warning/early action, disaster risk reduction/knowledge.
- Competence in hazard assessment, mapping, risk profiles/atlas preparation.
