Role Overview:

The Crypto Accountant is a critical role within our organization, responsible for overseeing the financial aspects of cryptocurrency transactions. This includes managing and tracking crypto-related activities, ensuring compliance with tax and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Financial Reporting & Analysis:
  2. Prepare accurate and timely financial reports related to cryptocurrency transactions, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports.
  3. Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and industry best practices in the crypto space.
  4. Track and report on crypto asset holdings, gains/losses, and other relevant financial metrics.
  5. Analyze financial data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities related to crypto holdings.
  6. Transaction Tracking & Reconciliation:
  7. Monitor and reconcile cryptocurrency transactions across various platforms (wallets, exchanges, DeFi platforms, etc.).
  8. Verify and maintain transaction records for digital assets, ensuring consistency and accuracy.
  9. Reconcile cryptocurrency transactions to traditional financial systems and bank accounts.
  10. Tax Compliance & Reporting:
  11. Prepare tax reports related to cryptocurrency transactions, ensuring compliance with local and international tax laws (e.g., IRS, HMRC).
  12. Collaborate with external tax advisors and auditors to ensure crypto tax obligations are met.
  13. Provide guidance on tax implications for transactions, portfolio rebalancing, staking rewards, and crypto-to-fiat conversions.
  14. Ledger Management:
  15. Maintain the general ledger for cryptocurrency holdings, including detailed records of all digital asset transactions.
  16. Implement and manage internal controls for tracking and recording crypto asset transactions.
  17. Audit & Internal Controls:
  18. Assist in the preparation for external audits, ensuring all crypto-related financial records are well-organized and compliant.
  19. Develop and maintain internal controls for crypto accounting to prevent errors and fraud.
  20. Blockchain & Cryptocurrency Knowledge:
  21. Stay up-to-date with evolving blockchain technologies, cryptocurrencies, and industry regulations.
  22. Analyze and assess new crypto projects, tokens, and emerging technologies for potential inclusion in the company's portfolio.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field (CPA, CFA, or other relevant certifications a plus).
  • 3+ years of accounting experience, with at least 1-2 years focused on cryptocurrency or digital asset accounting.
  • Hands-on experience with accounting software and platforms used for crypto accounting (e.g., CoinTracker, Koinly, or similar tools).
  • Knowledge of blockchain technology and crypto markets (Bitcoin, Ethereum, DeFi, NFTs, etc.) is essential.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and tax compliance as it applies to cryptocurrencies.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting software (QuickBooks, Xero, etc.).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Highly organized and proactive with a strong sense of responsibility.
  • A passion for the cryptocurrency space and staying up-to-date with trends in the industry.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Experience working in a crypto startup or fintech company.
  • Familiarity with decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols and NFTs.
  • Knowledge of international tax regulations relating to digital currencies and assets.
  • Familiarity with cryptocurrency wallets and cold storage solutions.

Estimated Salary: $80,000 - $110,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.
