Background

The Communications Department drives all corporate communications, promoting the Bank's vision and protecting its reputation and brand. Associates play a key role, leading complex projects, engaging with media and stakeholders, and crafting material that showcases the EBRD's work creatively. They collaborate across teams and levels of the Bank, including senior management and the Board.

Purpose of the job

  • Oversee and coordinate communications using variety of channels including social media, the corporate website , video, audio, the news media, multimedia publications, and internal communication outlets.
  • Highlight, publicise and promote EBRD's work externally and internally.
  • Maintain effective relationships with senior stakeholders across the Bank and externally.
  • Generate compelling, articulate content across channels, which promote the Bank's activities.
  • Implement the department's strategic plan within their team/area.
  • Show creativity and initiative in dealing with complex issues and often with tight deadlines.

Detailed tasks:

  • Promoting the Bank's activities in the sub-Saharan Africa region
  • Contributing to the daily workstream and follow the strategic direction within their team or area of operation.
  • Delivering a strong stream of high-quality content illustrating the Bank's activities on multiple online platforms, and to measure its impact.
  • Negotiating budgets for individual projects, in consultation with the department's senior management
  • Developing and maintaining relationships at all levels across the EBRD, as well as with external media outlets and partners.
  • Coordinating and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including at the most senior levels.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities

The Associate is expected to demonstrate initiative, manage multiple tasks and work without supervision.

The main accountabilities and responsibilities might include, but are not limited to:

  • Working with management on the visibility of the Bank's investments and activities via media interviews, compelling content for the website and social media channels.
  • Overseeing delivery of defined areas of the Communications Strategic Plan as directed.
  • Setting objectives for individual programmes of work, and ensuring effective assessment of outcomes and impact
  • Delivering accurate and creative content using a variety of channels relevant to the Bank's communications activity
  • Representing the Bank on relevant issues, internally and externally, to present a positive image and consistent voice about the Bank's activities.
  • Assisting with the preparation of communications strategies and responses to negative and inaccurate reports to safeguard the Bank's reputation.
  • Developing and maintaining a strong range of internal EBRD contacts and external contacts in the Bank's regions and other shareholder countries.
  • Guiding and advising more junior team members to ensure that material is delivered to a high standard.
  • Delivering training in specific skills areas (eg as a media specialist)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in the relevant discipline or equivalent work experience.
  • Proficient level in English
  • Desired proficiency in French.

Experience

  • Extensive experience in relevant areas of digital communications/journalism/ media relations/internal communications/donor visibility/writing and editing/research or other communication skills.
  • Good understanding of the Bank's regions including political and socio-economic context.
  • Knowledge of digital platforms and traditional media, relevant to communications and the industry.
  • Good understanding of the relevant business sectors.
  • Proven ability to create content and take strategic approach to delivery of messages.
  • High level of understanding and ability to use AI platforms

Technical skills

  • Highly literate, with excellent writing skills and the ability to generate compelling, articulate content.
  • Very good understanding and ability to use a wide range of communications channels, including web and social media as well as traditional media platforms.
  • Knowledge of audience metrics (and relevant software), content management systems, basic video production skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills as well as effective, persuasive and diplomatic communications skills.
  • Ability to assimilate facts quickly and effectively.
  • Proven ability to operate in a complex multinational, multicultural work environment with continuously changing priorities.
  • Ability to manage complex and challenging projects and initiatives.
  • Autonomy - experience of working independently and scheduling own work.
  • Taking initiative without being asked.
  • Results oriented - self-motivated individual able to set goals and priorities with a good sense of time management and ability to re-organise workload when confronted with changing priorities.
