ROLE PURPOSE
The Business Unit Manager will lead the strategic and commercial growth of a key business vertical within the organization. This role is responsible for driving revenue expansion, strengthening partnerships, and building high performing teams that operate effectively across the East African market.
The Manager will translate corporate strategy into measurable commercial outcomes by leading disciplined operations, managing profit and loss performance, and supporting product innovation and market penetration. This position calls for a seasoned commercial leader with deep understanding of digital financial services, strong analytical capability, and confidence in driving cross border business development initiatives.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Take full responsibility for the business vertical Profit & Loss (P&L)
- Achieve or exceed budgeted targets for revenue, EBITDA, profit
- Lead the business vertical from an operational and financial perspective
- Prepare accurate and timely reports for senior management and the Board of Directors
- Prepare and present the Quarterly Business Review (QBR) to the Board of Directors
- Demonstrate successful relationship-building with senior management within the organization to ensure alignment of company objectives and effective cross-functional processes.
- Demonstrate sales/revenue growth success
- Champion and initiate continuous improvement on sales processes, cost control and quality control
- Ensure company policies and procedures are understood and consistently followed by all team members
- Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team, delegating tasks and authority as appropriate
- Manage Key Performance Indicators and reporting on daily performance
- Foster an environment of open communication, collaboration, and mutual respect
- Determine performance drivers and direct accountability for that performance
- Create an energizing work environment that supports the company's high performance culture
- Develop and implement effective problem resolution processes
- Develop new concepts that meet customer needs or changing existing offerings to meet changing market conditions
- Conduct market research studies to identify potential new customers or new uses for existing products or services
- Monitoring industry trends and competitor activities to identify areas where additional research or development is needed to maintain competitiveness
- Analyse data and financial reports to inform decision-making
- Represent the company at industry events and conferences
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
· Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Management, or related field
· years of progressive commercial experience, including at least 5 years in senior management
· Proven experience managing a business unit with full P and L responsibility
· Practical experience in FinTech, digital banking, mobile payments, or financial inclusion
· Experience in cross-border East African markets (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Ethiopia preferred)
· Demonstrated success in revenue growth, business development, and building high-performing teams
