The Film Director will oversee the creative and technical aspects of the documentary production, ensuring the vision of the project is effectively communicated and brought to life. The role involves directing all stages of the filmmaking process, collaborating with the creative and production teams, and maintaining the highest standards of storytelling while addressing sensitive topics such as female genital mutilation, child marriages, and teen pregnancies in Kenya.Responsibilities:1. Creative Direction: Develop and articulate the creative vision for the documentary, ensuring it aligns with the project's goals and themes.2. Pre -Production Leadership:• Collaborate with writers, producers, and other key personnel to create detailed scripts, storyboards, and production plans.• Scout and secure locations for filming.• Work with the production team to cast interviewees and participants.3. Production Oversight:• Direct all on -set activities, including cinematography, lighting, and sound, to achieve the intended look and feel of the documentary.• Guide interviewees, crew, and other talent during filming to elicit authentic and impactful moments.• Ensure all filming adheres to schedules, budgets, and safety standards.4. Post -Production Supervision:• Oversee the editing process, including the selection of footage, sound design, and the integration of voiceovers or subtitles.• Collaborate with editors and composers to achieve the documentary's final tone and pacing.• Ensure sensitive topics are portrayed respectfully and accurately.5. Research and Interviews: Conduct or oversee interviews with subjects and experts to gather firsthand information and insights that drive the narrative.6. Team Collaboration:• Work closely with producers, cinematographers, and other creatives to maintain cohesion in storytelling.• Provide clear direction and constructive feedback to the crew and team members.7. Compliance: Ensure all production elements align with legal, ethical, and cultural standards, maintaining respect for the communities and individuals portrayed.8. Stakeholder Communication:• Liaise with producers, funders, and other stakeholders to provide regular updates on progress.• Participate in meetings to present creative approaches and discuss production status.9. Marketing and Distribution: Provide creative input on marketing strategies, including promotional trailers, posters, and social media content to engage audiences.10. Risk Management: Anticipate and resolve challenges during production, including logistical, creative, or technical issues. RequirementsSkills:1. Proven experience in directing documentaries or similar long -form storytelling projects.2. Strong leadership and team management abilities.3. Exceptional storytelling and visual composition skills.4. Proficiency with camera, lighting, and sound equipment.5. Knowledge of editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve).6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.7. Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.8. Familiarity with ethical standards and legal guidelines in documentary filmmaking.9.
