The Role

We're scaling rapidly across Web/Frontend and Backend/AI. To keep pace, we need a hands-on technical leader who can balance deep execution with architectural foresight. You'll bridge strategy and implementation: co-creating architecture and engineering standards with the Head of Engineering, while directly leading teams to build systems that scale sustainably—without bottlenecks.

Where You'll Make An Impact

• Build high-throughput, asynchronous APIs and microservices in Python with FastAPI.

• Design and evolve Postgres schemas, migrations, and performance tuning (query plans, indexes, connection pooling).

• Implement authentication/authorisation (OAuth2/JWT), input validation, rate-limiting, and robust error handling.

• Add observability for services: structured logging, tracing, metrics, and actionable dashboards/alerts.

• Design scalable, secure AWS infrastructure (ECS/EKS, Lambda, ElastiCache, S3, DynamoDB) using infrastructure-as-code preferably Pulumi.

• Ship via containerized CI/CD (GitHub Actions, ArgoCD) with automated tests, blue-green/canary deployments, and rollbacks.

• Collaborate with product and design to turn requirements into well-scoped, production-ready features; write clear docs and participate in code reviews.

What You'll Bring

• 5+ years backend Python experience building production services and APIs.

• Mastery of async Python patterns (asyncio, uvicorn, pydantic v2) and strong typing discipline.

• Hands-on experience architecting cloud-native, horizontally scalable systems on AWS.

• Deep familiarity with Postgres (schema design, performance, resilience) and ORMs (e.g., SQLAlchemy or equivalent).

• Solid grounding in DevOps practices: IaC (Pulumi or Terraform), automated testing (pytest), security scanning, and performance profiling.

Nice to Have (Not Required):

• Experience with FastAPI dependencies, background tasks, and websockets at scale.

• Caching and messaging (Redis/**ElastiCache**, SQS/SNS, Kafka).

• Exposure to LLM tooling (e.g., LangChain) and retrieval patterns (embeddings/RAG) useful but not required.

• Working knowledge of ML concepts and/or model training pipelines (bonus only).
