1. Provision of legal support to UNEP through the Corporate Services Division / Legal Unit

i. Serve as a National Legal Officer, supporting the provision of corporate legal advice to UNEP through the Corporate Services Division / Legal Unit, and contribute to the Unit's overall work as required.

ii. Review and draft legal instruments, agreements, and amendments. When deviations from UN/UNEP templates are requested by counterparts, provide legal advice regarding such instruments, including agreements with implementing partners.

iii. Support the review and due diligence processes of potential partners, including both non-profit and for-profit entities.

iv. Support the Corporate Services Division's work related to audit processes by oversight bodies, including reviewing recommendations and monitoring their implementation.

v. Support the work of the Corporate Services Division / Legal Unit focal point for UNEP's Intranet page (WeCollaborate) and other content management systems contributing to information and knowledge management.

vi. Assist in managing the Legal Unit's case management and workflow system.

2. Support the development and/or revision of legal templates and conduct legal research

i. In coordination with relevant offices, support the development of new and/or the review of existing legal agreement templates.

ii. In coordination with relevant offices, support the revision and implementation of UNEP policies, and assist in drafting summaries or briefing notes on policy matters.

iii. Support the preparation of a compendium of core legal advice delivered by the Legal Unit to ensure consistency and institutional knowledge within UNEP.

iv. Under the guidance of Legal Officers, conduct research on legal issues related to, inter alia, general international law, international organizations, privileges and immunities, and multilateral environmental agreements, and draft legal notes and memoranda for the Legal Unit's use.

Requirements:

A minimum of 7 years of experience in corporate law, including the drafting and review of legal instruments, exposure to the practice and interpretation of public international law, to partnerships with public/private sector actors, legal analysis, research and writing. Experience in working with Office 365 products e.g. SharePoint, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, is required.

Experience in database management and drafting legal advice is required.
